Aggg! Stay away from sillicone! It took me several hours to undo the mess that the previous owner dod with sillicone. Go to a local auto glass place and ask for some sealant. It comes on a roll. I think I used 1/4 inch to do my taillights, it might have been a little larger. Clean all of the previous sealant off of the taillight and car body, then heat them both with a blowdryer until they are pretty warm (FSM says 120F if I remember correctly) and apply a strip of the sealant to the taillight and then install. Mine haven't leaked a drop since.

You can get that stuff at NAPA. It is called Butyl Rubber Gaskets (for windshield and headlight repair) and is about $10 for a 6 foot roll. you have to make sure you clean the old stuff off really well. you can use lighter fluid to help get it off. Good luck
