Hello, I searched but couldn't find an exact answer to my question. I was wondering why sometimes after i start my car and begin to drive away, for the first 10-15 feet a trace of black smoke blows out of the exhaust, not heavy but noticable then no more black smoke.

Any clues>?

black smoke = engine running rich

if it does it only when u first start up it probably means there was extra gas in a cylinder (leaky injector?), or its just rich on start up for some funky reason... if you dont have any other problems i wouldnt worry about it.

Black smoke is extra fuel that isn't being burnt. If it is only coming out when you first start the car, I would say that it is either a leaky injector or your temperature sensor is going out and feeding an incorrect (falsely cold) signal to the ECU. Do you let the car warm up for a couple of minutes before you take off, or do you just go? Try letting it warm up first and see if it does it. Keep us updated!

Hey sammy, if it was blue smoke when it first starts, it would be the valve guides. Chevy's are infamous for that. Smoke when you first start them and then quit. I've never heard of Nissans having problems with valveguides so that would be an odd occurance.
