I was driving im my buddies sr20det 240, on the highway then "POP" then the car shuts off. We pull over to the side, and start the car up lots of black smoke the idle is messed up, no power then bogs out and shuts off. We didnt hear any knocking. Half the oil is gone, we did the oil change the day before, no leaks, 5 quarts cause he has an Greddy oil pan. His turbo has a little bit of oil in the charge pipe comming out the turbo, its been running like that for a month no problem. I was told it could be a coil pack? We put 5w 30 in it, could it be that the oil is to thin? but i thought that would give it blue smoke. Im pretty clueless right now, help me out guys. Thanks

black smoke=gas=running rich. check for boost leaks. i have no idea about your oil problem though.

same here. as far as the oil being low i dont know. but the oil in your pipe running from the turbo could be from the turbo itself. the pop and bad idle and bogging out sounds like you popped off an intercooler pipe. were you guys messing with anything before the ride? were driving at wot when this happened? or was it pretty calm driving?

check all piping and also check timing.

ya check all of your piping if you dont find any leaks check your ecu for codes. bad idle could be timing or could be a bad iacv or tps. also check your fuel injectors make sure none of them are stuck. the way to check your fuel injectors is to turn the key on so you can build fuel pressure in the fuel rail. then pull the fuel rail off with fuel injectors in the fuel rail still. then turn the engine over. (unplug the coilpacks when you do this). but like i said also check the timing, iacv resistance and tps voltage.
