Well like the title says. I need some help with the 240. Im 18, hardly make enough money to pay for insurance on the car. The car runs extremely rich. You can smell the gas just walking by even if the car is not on or anything along with excessive black smoke out the muffler. She idles real low and shuts off on me at EVERY stop or as soon as i get it out of gear. I'd really hate to take it to a shop when i know there are my fellow niconauts that can help me out. thanks

Jager

sounds like your MAFS. go to your parts store and pick up an air fuel sensor cleaner, not a carb cleaner (they're 2 different kinds), unplus your MAFS from the pigtail, and take that shìt apart and spray it with the cleaner. If that doesn't work, you'll probably need to get a new MAFS.

yeah, that is a possibility for the effed up idle, but MAFS causes the richness and smoke, including idle as well.

what you can do to check, is when its idling funny, pop you hood and just unplug your MAFS. if the idle goes well, then you know for sure its your MAFS.

but try my method anyways, the cleaner is only like $4 at kragen. it'll only take a few minutes to do. Just spray and let it dry, dont touch the sensors though. just spray that shìt.

Also check the temperature sensor for the ECU; if it's bad, the ECU will think the motor is cold and will provide a rich mixture.
