Hi everybody, With my white Versa, I want to make it a "two tone" car, with high contrast black parts. I already have tinted windows and deflectors. Now, I'm hoping to black out the Nissan rear emblem and Versa SL letters. Since I'm pretty new at this stuff, I was wondering what you would recommend for the paint. To remove the letters, I'll use the fishing line/heat/Goo Gone trick, so that's not a problem. But to black them out, should I go for regular paint or Nite Shade (or something). What are the advantages of each ? Then, to stick it back on, what should I use ?

Thanks again for the tips guys ! Still waiting for the blacked out grill How-to ! ;-)

pesonally I would get new emblems to paint....trying to get the old ones to match up and stick right is pretty tricky.....as far as paint them I would use the rim paint from dupli-color ...its a bit less prone to chiping

Sand the chrome off and paint them with Fusion.

sand off the chrome, clean it, grab a bottle of Nite Shades (may have to order off ebay), spray untill blacked out spray lightly to avoid runs, wait untill it drys, give it a few shots of a clear coat. Thats should do it!

With all your knowledge, there should be a lot more how-tos on this forum. Personnally, I don't know the first thing about sanding or applying clear coat, that's why I'm looking for the simplest solution. But if some people were kind enough to write tutorials about their mods, I'm sure that would be greatly appreciated.

As for my emblems thing, I'll go with the sanding and Nite Shade. That's probably the easiest solution.

lol im going to be redoing my tail lights and grille soon (next time i can go with out a car for a day) i will be sure to make a write up for the nite shades.

But you cant go wrong just sand off the chrome, but nite shades apply it lightly in a few coats untill its as dark as you want, then but any automotive clear coat from like autozone what what you have near you, and apply about 3 coats of it, the clear coat you can apply a little thicker then the nite shades but be careful to not make it run or drip because you would have to sand it down with a fine sand paper and go over it again with clear. Hope this helps if not IM me

Just a few questions before going on with this project:1- I though Nite Shade didn't need clear coat ?2- How much does a can usually cost in the US ? I'm afraid it might be expensive in Québec, so I'll need to get them from eBay. We'll see !3- CodeRed, why would you redo your grill and lights ?

1- Nothing needs a clear coat, the purpose of the clear coat is to take the beating of the elements instead of the nite shades, chips ect.2- http://cgi.ebay.ca/VHT-NITESHA...wItem3- My grille has a chip in the paint :'( , tail lights kuz i want to make them a little bit darker

Aim me at bubbadan07 if you got anymore questions

IMHO the fishing line is awkward and inefficient to use.

I used a spray adhesive to stick my emblem back on and it's stuck great (I periodically try to pull the letters off and only succeed in rocking my car.)

Alright, so here's what I've done so far (not much time to spend on that).

Using my usual 97-cent plastic wall scraper (used to remove the dealer's stickers), I managed to remove each individual letter and the Nissan Logo. The fishing line did turn out to be awkward and not as useful as I hope. Once the letters were removed, thick pieces of black glue/stickers wer remaining on the car and on the letters. Using Goo-Gone, I rubbed away what was left on the car and used scissors to remove it from the letters.

Only later, I realised that I probably needed this stuff to glue it back on, so I'll have to figure out a way, maybe with special double sided tape.

Now, about painting it. As I remove the black stuff from the letters, I chipped a piece of chrome paint from behind a letter. When you say to sand it, it's only to help the paint stick to it, not to remove the chrome finish, right ?

That's where I am at the moment. I'll be getting Nite Shade and/or the paint from the grill tutorial and clear coat this weekend. Maybe next week, I'll do the painting, everything at the same time.

By the way, having an Versa SL, I would be able to used the letters to write "***" instead . Also, using all the letters, I can write "SAL VERS", which means "dirty worm" in french. I don't know why I would do that , so I won't !

I also think that the plastic paint from my thread will also work perfectly, you can do what kimber did and use a spray adheasive, or 3M sells car grade double sided tape.

I'd buy a new set of emblems. Lightly sand to dull the finish. Prime, paint with a factory black paint or an automotive paint, and clear coat once or twice.
