does anyone know how to black out tail lights so they could be like on an RX7?

i know this sounds kinda ignorant/ricer-ish but hear me out

my car is gonna be black, and i want the sleekest possible ride in the world :D

i'm gonna have no wing, bomex body kit, smoked headlights and corner lights, smoked turn signals and side markers, black rims w/ chrome lip, and i wanna have all black headlightsthis car would look so amazing!

do you have an s14 or mcs14? You could get the mcs14 lights if you want darker tails. Im not sure how to tint them.

the RX7 tails are a dark plastic with LED lights behind instead of bulbs. If you converted to LED's it would be very easy to do.

very slick indeed.and the chrome/polished lip on the wheels will make them stand out nicely in contrast with the car.

I have a friend here in Orlando who paints cars and he uses some special spray to "smoke" tail lights. I can ask him what he uses. I know he takes them apart and sprays them on the inside so the lens will still be shinny on the out side.

go to pepboys (or paint store) and pick up some translucent black spray paint, and some clear coat. rough up the surface (sand it) spary the black, sand, black, sand, black, until you get the desired blackness. then repeat the process with the clearcoat (clear, then sand) do about 3 coats clear, more if you deem necessary:)

inside or outside? and also, would the paint not stick if i dont rough it up? (i think that's what's happening on my tests for the interior paint)

i'm doin it over w/ some primer then black so it looks REALLY black and smoothed out

i tried with no primer on an extra piece first and the paint would actually spread away from the plastic and well up...it was weird...i'm guessin i'm gonna have to rough up thsi plastic a lil..

it is a nice Idea, I considered doing that on my civic, and I actually painted the talights black, but then they said it was illegal and I got a warning for it. But it is a really sweet idea, if you could make EVERYTHING on your car black, that would be the ****, you could go around like knight rider and talk to your car and so forth......

You don't have to go to the store and buy paint, clearcoat and all of that. All you need to do is go to SummitRacing and buy a product called Nite Shades. According to SummitRacing - "Nite Shades Coating is a transparent black taillight lens coating for creating a custom look. When applied to taillights, fog lights, or turn indicators, VHT Nite Shades appears black until the lights are lit, then the natural red color appears." It is $10.95 for a 7-oz can.

Please make sure to test fit the kit before you send it off. I know bomex is a good company and you probably won't have a problem but i still remember when my friend had his front bumper painted before a test fit, he got it back and it was all bowed and **** and wouldn't fit right. Of course after it's painted they wouldn't take it back so he got screwed hard.

I am also thinking of replacing my light bulbs with LED's I have an idea in my head but I don't want to do it cuz if I screw up then i won't have a tail light. I am looking for a crashed s14 who will sell me the tail light housing for cheap so I can work on it and test it out and see if it looks good or works..
