Black or Chrome?

Well first off I'd like to say hi, this is my first post here and I always like becoming part of new substantial online communities. But I'll not get sidetracked here, I have a particularly small aesthetic detail decision that is bugging me, and I'd like to ask the opinions of other 350z enthusiasts and owners.

I did search for such a question but unfortunately I did not find a discussion regarding it.

I'm buying my first 2003 350z the end of this month, and I'm planning ahead what I want to put on it. I've already decided on getting pearl white paint, but now I'm stuck on the rims.

I see a lot of black rims on white 350z, and some do look good, but I've been considering deep dish chrome rims instead.

Rather than just thinking about what each option looks like I decided to Photoshop my preference onto a 350z so it's easier for both me and you to consider, whether the decision may be personal preference, I would still value all of your opinions.

I borrowed an image from the check-in image post by the user "2bar sr20", because of the angle of the picture, and it has the color I'm wanting on the model and year. He has black, well titanium gray I suppose, rims on it in this original picture:

I've photoshopped my preference of rims, a nice deep reflective lip with the chrome rims, 5 spokes, here:

Now which do you think looks better?

Thanks

Im not a fan of chrome. How much are you willing to spend? There is a guy in my area selling a set of 19" Volks that look a lot like those.

I myself like the titanium color. I've also been trying to decide on a silver colored wheel or black, and I think the titanium may fit the bill.

Titanium looks good. I like Antracite.... could be the 'cousin' of titanium but with a polished aluminum lip...appox 1 1/2 front lip and 2 or 3" 'deep dish' lip for the rear.

IMHO Chrome does not belong on a Z!

It's your Z and you have to decide no matter what others like or say!

Really depends on what style you are going for. Black wheels give the Z a more aggresive race look where as chrome wheels give you a more VIP style. Choosing wheels for a car can make or break the look of it. My opinion is to go with a black or graphite wheel with a polished or chrome deep lip. Again it depends on how you will build your Z. "Chrome will get you home" but you will always be cleaning them. Good luck with your choice and congrats on your future purchase of an awsome sports car.

I do realize alot of it is personal preference, but I also think it's possible to get so locked down on what you think looks good that it's possible to just start making bad and ugly choices.

Anyways, I decided to compromise. I like black, but I also want chrome. So I started looking for wheels with chrome inserts and these rims really popped out at me. They're more of a brushed metal finish rather than chrome, and also has the matte black element. They're Axis Elite. I'm probably going to go with these.

I'm pretty sure those are TSW's. http://www.wheelsnext.com/whee....htmlI thought about those before I got the G-Games by Rays Engineering.

TSW has a webste and gallery showing their wheels on various cars. A lot of Z's there. I just put 19" TSW Cadwells on and love them. They have gunmetal sides and a machined lip and faces.

What did you decide to get?

Well, my08350z, I'm not black, but I don't think that has anything to do with it. I'm not going to rice my 350z out; I have no plans to put any kind of outlandish bodykit or spoiler on it. But I'm just trying to gather opinions on what people think about chrome rims on a pearl white 350z.

So far they've given very good input and although it will be my 350z and decision in the end, just as dressing yourself in the morning is, you look at what other people are wearing to some degree to choose your outfit.

I've been looking at the Anthracite rims alot, I like it better than black, and it's a unique color and finish. It will be the end of this month before I have my car and buy these rims (after exhaust), but I'll be sure to let you all know what I decided. Thanks for all your input and advice though.

Just make sure you have the proper offsets. You need to understand throughly about rim offsets.Buying wheels takes a lot of time & research because you want to do it right the first time around.....tires are another issue to deal with!

Sorry, but unless you plan on not really driving your car or making it a show car I think that's stupid to run such a camber just so you can get bigger tires to fit without rubbing. If you plan on driving it regularly, as soon as you get up to speed it's going to rub anyway. You're also going to go through tires a lot faster.
