I recently saw a black Altima Coupe and it looked so sharp! My only problem is the heat issue. It is a pretty well known idea that a black car with black leather will get pretty steamy in Texas heat. Now though, cars are made with this "solar reflecting glass." My question is, is it true nowadays that a black car with black leather will get hotter (ON THE INSIDE) than say a black car with tan leather?

This summer was craziness in my car. The black leather became scorching hot and I could barely sit. The steering wheel was also extremely hot. I'm sure that blond leather will also be rather hot, but probably not as hot. I have a silver A/C and it was very very hot. I can only image how black ones fare. Nevertheless, I wouldn't want blond leather...

Absolutely. Window tinting can help rectify the problem slightly but black is going to attract the sun more than others. I'd also have to say that any color leather in the sun is unpleasant at times.

Would I let this stop my color choice? No. A car gets hot in the summer. Its normal. The black slightly more. Nothing you can't handle.

it helps to til the moonroof and slide the thingy only halfway so that there's enough space for heat to escape but blocking the sun from scorching your seat. And put up sunshades. If possible, try to park in the direction that the sun will be behind you when it is hottest around 2pm Of course tinting also help a lot

I agree. Hot is hot is hot is hot. I wouldn't let a little extra 1.5 degrees of heat or so stop you from getting the car of your favorite color.

I love the black on black. Yes, with tint, things help. Window visors, great help. Something called AC, and that does not stand for Altima Coupe in this case, has been known to cool a car quick.

Trust me, it can't be that much difference.

This all coming from guys up north. Come down here when it's over 100 for days or weeks on end & tell me there's not much difference. My last car was black w/ black leather & it was an oven in the Texas summer. I won't do that again.

I lived in Georgia for 4.5 years. I know a little about hot summers and had a black Altima at that time.

To me, there is not much difference. To you, it may be a big difference. Each person is different in how much heat they can tolerate. That's what this thread is for, to post your thoughts.

North, East, South, West...I stand behind what I said.

When I was shopping for my first brand new car (94 SE-R), I was stuck between black or white. I ended up choosing the white because the difference in heat between the two was huge. On a hot summer day, touch the surface of a white and a black car and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. The black is too hot to even touch for 5 seconds while you can just leave your hands on the white without any heat problems. That was the final deciding factor in me buying the white.

I still think black cars look the nicest, but they are the hardest to keep clean.

I would much rather have seat coolers than seat warmers.

Well stated. My black/black was great in the winter(heated seats) & I had darkest legal tint. When it was 100+ outside, it was around 150 inside. Black paint retains heat. And yes, when it was clean, it was very nice looking.

Mines black w/ black leather and with the windows tinted, the heat wasn't an issue. Although, living in Phoenix is like living in hell in the summer so maybe I'm just used to the heat....

5% tint all around...is that legal there? That's only legal on back & rear windows here.

not legal in the least bit. neither is the having my entire windshield tinted 38%.... however, there is a certain shiny piece of metal that i keep in my pocket that makes me not worry about such things...

tinting the windows made a world of difference in my car. if heat was as big an issue to you as it was to me make sure you get 3M tint. it cost a little more but is well worth it

I remember the times I've been thru Phoenix...it was like walking into a blast furnace.

The best thing you can do - besides tint, is a window shade - the kind that covers the inside of the whole windsheild. This helps prevent the dash and especially steering wheel from getting too hot to touch.
