Black Obsidian vs Black

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hey guys, I recently purchased a 2011 EX35 Journey AWD in Black Obsidian... or so the sticker says. From my understanding, Black Obsidian means the paint should have a metallic shine to it, right? I honestly do not see it on mine, and I'm beginning to think this sticker was labelled incorrectly. My girlfriend bought a new Hyundai Elantra with the metallic black paint and you can easily see the sparkles. I don't notice a thing on my EX35. Is the Black Obsidian a really, really subtle metallic compared to other black metallic paints, or am I looking for the wrong thing? I just want to make sure I'm not going crazy. It still looks great, but I'd be kind of pissed if the sticker was wrong.

You are not going crazy and the sticker is not mislabeled. The Black Obsidian is not as "sparkly" as some other colors and is closer to a true jet black. Spend some time with a great wax and you will forget about the glitter. The Graphite Shadow has considerably more metallic to it and it really shows in the sun. Enjoy your EX!
