So a while back I got a cat-back, a POP charger, and an UD Pulley, and I noticed that I'm getting a lot of black soot on the exhaust tips. I'm guessing the car might be running a bit rich, but I could be wrong. What do guys suggest to get rid of, or reduce, this problem? Here are some pics:

Here's what it's looking like:

Are you running catless? Carbon build up is normal on the exhaust but running rich could speed up the build up as well as running no cats. As for removing it, what I have found works best is.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep that in mind the next time I clean the soot off the tips.

No, my cats aren't gutted. What do you think would cause it to run rich? I was thinking it would probably be the POP charger because when I put an intake on my old integra a while back, my exhaust tips, along with my bumper, would be covered in soot. What should I do to correct this? Upgrade the ECU and get a tune? Take off the POP charger? Any suggestions would great.

Thanks,

My HKS tips get pretty black like that but then again I have test pipes, thats a bit unusual for people still running cats.

I would check your plugs and make sure they are the correct ones for the car and that the tip and gap is good. Check the timing make sure it's correct etc. Eliminate the easy stuff before spending money. Again though build up is normal even with the cats still on the car but that much in your pic would be a long time. The pop charger shouldn't be the issue and if anything seems like it would make the car run more lean than before given that it flows more air.
