Wow, this seems a bit absurd and unrealistic. What will people think of next? I think this will cause a lot of debate among residents there.

Black cars definitely heat up more than others, especially when parked in direct sunlight for an hour or so, so I get the intent of the legislation, but you'd think that we could use this phenomenon to our advantage. Why not have the top surfaces of the car covered with inconspicuous solar panel meshing, or work the technology into the paint itself somehow?

That's the most stupid thing I have ever heard of in a long time, shame on people who agree with this idea. Sounds like a nanny state plan. Seriously, what is wrong with alot of people in Cali?

Since when is this any of the State's damn business?

When I take over the world, the first thing public action will be a televised lynching of everyone ever involved in CARB.

My whole family drives black cars. Black Nissans, in fact.

What next? Ban cars with subwoofers because the subwoofer uses more power? Restrict electronic accessories to the bare necessities to reduce alternator load? Ban power windows? Ban charging your cell phone while driving? Ban A/C during peak hours? Holy smegging carp, where are they going to draw the line?

I want to move to Nevada with a fleet of barely-idling tuned musclecars with no emissions controls and no mufflers and drive around in Californian cities. Maybe I'll sit and rev outside some legislators houses for a few hours while enjoying the smell of uncatalyzed exhaust fumes. Mmmmm, unburned hydrocarbons.

come on up to Ontario, where, while that is not [yet] happening, we're getting smart meters and paying more for electricity during peak hours.

Yup, they want us to put our dishwashers on timer [using electiricty] so we don't use electricity during the day. And they [the wonderful government, that is] want us to do our laundry afte 9:00 at night as well. So we'll all stay up later and change "peak hour" from day to night [using more electricity because our lights are on longer].

This isn't as bad as blaming global warming on animal farts, though.

Maybe when the Governator takes the Oval Office, as the movie Demolition Man clearly predicted will happen, you can ask him to lead by example and ride in a bright colored motorcade?

if that is the case they should allow everyone with dark cars to cover their cars in public... their only concern is when the car is parked in direct sunlight? so i say let us put on car covers in public places when parking our cars... there millions of dollars saved for the state to do all this research, and if the state really wanted to make some money they would have to make it so that only state approaved car covers where used... man i should be the gov. look at all my potential....

We have these smart meters as well. We haven't really noticed too much of a difference. One thing we try to do is to turn on the dishwasher at night, but half of the time I forget. So it ends up getting turned on in the morning as we leave for the day. I think our government expects too much of us and is a bit ridiculous in some of the decisions they make.

#1 - You are so right Skunk. I'll write you in on the ballot. #2 - Anyone who lives in So Cal or other hot climates knows that you end up running the A/C in your car every time you start the engine and don't turn it off till you turn off the car, regardless of exterior color. They'd be better off forcing everyone to tint their windows. #3 - That's Mercedes, BMW & Lexus' main colors. Is everything going to be white?

You're right. We need better tint laws. Or better yet, no tint laws.

Regardless of car color, everyone here is blasting their A/C in the summer months.

What's next? No black roofs? No asphalt? No black clothing? Black people tint your skin for the environment's sake? Thanks a lot, Al Gore.

well, I was going to leave it alone . . . but the floodgate has opened -- I hope not.

while I thought the original comment was inappropriate . . . I'm hoping that this thread does not deteriorate.

let's get back to cars.
