I bought a new Nissan Murano 2009 SL in November of '08. We'd had the car about a month when I was out shopping, and when I got in the car and tried to start it, it simply made a fast "ticking" noise, all lights came on....but nothing happened. The windshield wipers (which are left on automatic) starting going slowly, then they would stop and lights would start to fade. Then, all of a sudden, the windshield wipers would go again, lights would brighten...and so on. I had to push the start button to make it go off (about 3 times) I waited a second and tried again. I tried this several times and eventually only got the warning light about air in my tires. My husband came out to try and jump it...and that didn't work until he put the connection (on one of the cables) directly ON the cable and not on the battery. Started right up....and started every time with no problem for about 2 months. Then, out of the blue...happened again. This time, he jumped it and we took it to Nissan. They weren't able to re-create the problem and had no idea what was wrong. It has now happened 4 times....and they told me next time, to call them whenever it happened so that they could tow my car and check it out BEFORE I got it running. Well, happened this weekend, service department was closed...and we were packed to leave...so we jumped it again. They have changed the batteryalready. In the interim....QUITE often I will be driving and suddenly the dash disply lights will simply go out, as if they simply "blinked" off. This is very random...and usually they come on the next time I start the car...but usually go out again after anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. They simply blink out. Nissan service department has NO CLUE because they've never heard of this before. I'm already having a problem with the navigation system (earlier post) and call waiting. Has anyone got any idea what could be going on?

It sounds like you have a bad connection on one of the battery cables. Most likely it's loose someplace.

Sounds to me like it could be an issue with the Intelligent Power Distribution Module (IPDM). In any case the car's still under warranty so the dealer should be able to sort it out.

We have a 2009 LE that exhibited exactly the same symptoms this last week during a sub-zero cold spell. My wife drove the car to a meeting and left it parked for approximately 2 hours before trying to start it to come home.

The windshield wipers would slowly operate, even though there was no moisture present. When trying to start the vehicle, the (I assume) starter solenoid would chatter, but nothing else would happen. Before jumping the car, I checked battery voltage and it was at approximately 10.5 volts, so something definitely was draining the battery. The headlight switch was in the auto position and the seat heaters were on. My assumption at the time was that either the headlights stayed on or my wife accidentally pushed the start button twice when exiting the vehicle, putting it in aux mode.

I jumped the vehicle and charged the battery fully, and it has been ok since. (About 4 days so far). At this point I don't know if it's an operator problem or a system problem, but there's something going on...

I think you should search on several websites on net for the best answer. Find it by yourself only.
