At the moment, I'm strapped for cash, so I'm just pulling out my old stereo system and tossing it in my 96 240sx se. I purchased a wiring kit to put in my own sony head unit, but unfortunately, something is wrong somewhere. While my unit will power up, I'm getting no sound at all. I still get sound from the factory cd player, just not mine. Any ideas to this? If I can't figure this out, I'm just going to leave the factory CD player in it until I upgrade.

I know my amp and subs aren't the best, but its temporary setup until I'm able to upgrade to a better single sub setup (giving up my trunk until then :(). I'm running two 12" Kicker CompVRs with a phoenix gold xs2300 (rated at 316 watts). No *****in about it not being enough power, I know it isn't hehe, but for now I just need something. All the factory speakers were blown, need something until I can take a step up. I'm curious on what the best setup would be to run it, right now I'm planning on running it in 2 ohms wired parallel unless someone suggests something different.

Defective Sony unit? That's my best guess. If you're installing the HU correctly with the harness, that's all I can think of. At any rate, what's wrong with the factory unit? It plays, right?

BTW I've always stayed away from Sony since my last system... Sony HU (forget which one) and two 6 1/4" three-way Xplods in my old 86 Nissan pickup... What a waste. Probably just the speakers, but man, after a couple months it sounded like CRAP. Hope Sony's improved since then.

Sony head unit should be fine, but theres nothing wrong with the factory one either. I just prefer the features of the Sony over the stock, but its not the end of the world at all.

Was the factory one a Bose unit? If so, the adapter to allow you to replace the factory HU is not a simple one.

<This is assuming you had a BOSE HU with the "powered" speakers>

Yes, it is the Bose HU with the powered speakers.

The proper kit would be a PAC ROEM-NIS2. I'm sure there are other companies that make similar products, but I am content with the one I am using and it works pretty well.

The solution to rattles is sound dampening material. Dynamat is the first name in sound dampening, but it is not the only one. You can get great results from stuff that is a lot cheaper. Brown Bread is really good and so is ram mat (not sure of the spelling).

I plan on Dynamat or something similar. Just I'm gonna need a huge amount of it :(
