Bit of a street race from the weekend for those interested

Saw this mid to late 90's toyota tacoma SR5 darting through traffic like he was driving a car.

get to the lights, i'm behind him due to cars in the other lane. light turns green and he gets on it for everything he got...has a good launch actually...doesn't spin out.

So i'm biting on his bumper, he's not puttin any ground on me whatsoever. as I hit third I change to the next lane and I'm inching towards him.

Then as the classic race with most pickups go, while still in third i jump even with him....then just pass him, and hit fourth once i'm in front. at the higher part of third i was really passing him good.

Trucks are usually very strong off the line, but you can almost always reel them in once the race gets beyond second gear. Had we kept going after I was a car length ahead it would have gotten even more uglier.

just thought i'd share

it was a nice clear stretch free of traffic that went for at least a 1/4 mile.

Sorry I had to post it. theres been so many posts about fellas fearing pick ups lately I couldnt help it.

Any race in my 240 I find absolutely hilarious.

The city where i live is quite the redneck town with so many trucks with FEAR THIS in the back window.

**edit: i'll check that link when I'm not at work since I have no idea whats on it. Sorry if you never found the post funny and took it for an actual good street race

Nathan: too many times now I've almost had my seatbelt off while stopped at an intersection, to get out and pop my trunk and motion for the FEAR THIS pickup driver to just drive right on in.

They just love getting so close so their headlights are shining in every possible mirror blinding you. Then not only that, flying around town at breakneck speeds, and all you see is the truck bouncing on the verge of losing control...being driven beyond its limits.

So yeah, Fear This makes sense!

Tacomas are more agile than you think. I don't care for stickers that tell people how tough I am, but rather I enjoy seeing some moron in his dumped import economy car acting tough because his girlfriend is with him, and making him look very stupid as he can't seem to pass me. Try as he might... when an economy car has little to no torque, but is loud as hell, and half primered to boot, and then the driver decides to act tough, he gets the beatdown from my 'redneck' vehicle.

No "fear this" stickers, just a hauling vehicle for my bike or quad.

A Tacoma is hardly a redneck vehicle... but that's hilarious.

The newer V8 Chevy trucks are pretty quick... my friend's pulls me every time. He's got exhaust, intake, hypertech (ECU tuner), gears, posi, and some 295s in the rear. Beats me by a good car length everytime.

SmithSR: by no means are trucks redneck vehicles, and I actually like Tacomas. Maybe I should elaborate:

Having a truck is one thing, having a truck with calvin stickers, more antennaes than a radio station etc etc ...i'm sure you get the picture.

These are the same type of fellas that thought their truck could take my GTP when I owned it, that always got owned 7 ways to Sunday. It was the first thing that I noticed when I moved to this area. I couldn't get over the amount of trucks trying to race. (yes there are some fast trucks)

So I was not poking fun at the truck, moreso the driver who subjected his truck to that of whats commonly seen for alot of import ricer cars.

Get the picture?

My fun was that my ugly, painted-with-spray-cans 240sx, exhaust nearly falling off, stubborn cheap masking tape glue still stuck to parts fo the window moldings...beat his pimped out truck.

ps - the car itself is not ugly cuz of its design, but cuz of its primitive body work

I raced a Turbo Diesel with the smoke stacks, those things haul. We did it from a roll so it was a close race, but if it was off the line I wouldve had him by alot more.

I like the new Toyota Tundra! They pack one hell of a punch especially with the TRD supercharger! The Tundra has a nice suspension system that will lower the truck at 80MPH! I have seen them well into the 400HP range with enough torque to pull stumps.
