I'm not a Doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but...

AFAIK, some forms of birth control (not sure about the pill) do, in fact, interrupt the normal menstrual cycle.

I'd uhhh...recommend seeing if you can find some add'l (and more credible) info on something like webmd.com. You could probably also call your local Planned Parenthood office and get questions answered with complete anonymity.

For the record, this is the most off-topic question I've ever answered here on NICO. I feel compelled to add something car related.

Errr...cam shaft...ummm...carburetor.

Edit: There are a bunch of message boards at webmd.com. You may actually be able to get a quick answer from a real medical professional.

The Pill won't cause a missed period though the shot will. EPT is good in about a week.

Don't mean to put my GF's business out there but when she FIRST started using bc, she missed her period by almost 2 weeks. WHHHOOOOAAAA boy was I on edge those two weeks. One she had it, it LASTED almost 2 weeks. She says it depends on the person.

Birth control is really an ugly thing for a woman. It does mess up alot of things within them. having an odd menstrual cycle is normal, as is moodyness and even odd sensitivity.

Just take your time... If she is preggy you guys can figure things out.

If I had to put money on it, I would say that its just the pills....

And not so sound like a spoil sport, but you should be using condoms anyways....

Hey...something I know about. lol

Everyone is right to an extent. The pill gets different reactions from different women. Some women have been known to miss a period or two...as gnik pointed out...in the beginning of useage she'll probably see the most obvious effects like being late or missing completely. In some cases women who have traditionally had light cycles could develop a heavy cycle. The pill, like all birth control, is not 100% effective.

As for the testing...they range. I wouldn't trust the tests that claim you can know within a day of conception. That's too much like a good thing. If she is 1-2 weeks pregnant she should get a good reading from any test. Just have her count back to her last cycle and the days of intercourse after that and she should be able to get a good idea when she could have conceived.

Wow, I love being a daddy. Eyes so smarts nows.

there are tests that are over the counter that you can take as soon as like 3 days late or something...

yea, I have had some scares like this...

but the pill cac screw things quite a bit.. it also decreases the sex drive in a LOT of women...

I'm surprised no women have contributed to the thread.

I used to use the pill for b/c, now i use the nuvaring... SO MUCH EASIER TO DEAL with. Especially since i can't remember to take the pill every day so i switched. If your gf has just started the pill, like everyone said (you guys are well educated on the matter) it varies from woman to woman. You can get over-the counter ept tests to be sure, but i wouldn't trust them 100% either. Nothing's 100%. Best way to be sure about it: double-up. Use a condom and have her on the pill. It's the safest way.

The pill has come a long way since the 70's side effects are much less severe, esp. if the woman doesn't smoke. The nuvaring i'm using has the same low % as the pill does. I do highly advise to stay away from the patch, it's evil. Because it has to deliver hormones through the skin it is 10 times more concentrated than the pill and the ring. It can cause certain problems in women.

Anyhow, hope that helps. I'm quite the advocate for b/c. No one should have a kid if they're not ready.

In more ways than one! A condom can minimize STD issues - birth control pills don't do squat for that.

Uh... Kev? What's goin' on man?

Like everyone said, the pill affects different women different ways. Some actually get more regular on it.

Anyways, watch yourself buddy, if what we all think is up is up. I thought you and the gf just had a spat anyway? Make-up love, eh?

Yes it can miss periods because it messes with the females hormones. It happened to my wife. My wife says that a pregnancy test can be taken at the earliest on the a week before she's suppose to have her period.

Boy, your timing sucks. Though, if her period was supposed to start within a day, I'd think you might've been too late? I dunno. Start praying.

Keep me posted man, I'll keep hoping for a stroke of luck.

I'm fighting the instinct to ask a billion questions based on the info you've given us...

I'd try not to worry about it too much, you and your gf should be okay. If your gf just started taking the pill her periods will be irregular for at least the first three months. I've had plenty of experience with birth control...and it sucks! LOL. There are many side effects with most pills. Just have your gf take a home pregnancy test or go to her gyno(assuming she has one). Just be careful in the future. Everyone makes mistakes, it happens to the best of us. I should know, I've had a few scares like your having...its not fun, especially when your young. Hang in there and I hope everything works out in your favor

well, next time you **** it, there's the next morning pill. Just don't make a habit of it...(nasty chemicals from what I hear).

Also, what are these claims of the next day pregnancy test? From what I remember, it can take up to 48 hours for conception. (Don't know why, seeing how that thing shoots).

Use a condom. Let BC be the backup if it breaks or something like that without you knowing (I'm speaking from experience). Especially for you playa playaz out there ...too much funga munga going around to be a playa these days anyway.

If she only took the active pills then she won't get a period. Usually there are 4 weeks worth of pills in one cycle. 3 weeks worth of active pills that contain hormone and one week that's just a sugar pill. Under normal conditions, that one week of sugar pills is suppose to allow for a normal menstrual cycle. If she only took the hormone pills and instead of taking the sugar pills, skipped to the next pack and took next month's hormone pills, then she won't get a period. If she took the sugar pills, then better get a test in a week.
