A friend of mine has access to a CNC mill. He made this piece for me. I used it for about 30 miles. Now I have a Q45 MAF and can't use the CA adapter. So this one is up for sale. Also, he is considering making them for everyone, but wants to kind of gauge interest in them. So who here would be willing to pay $30 + shipping for a brand new one of these? Also, he will be making one for my Q45 MAF and he has already made them for his SR. So, he will be able to provide them for any MAF you have. It would come with 4 stainless Steel socket head capscrews to install as well. The $30 isn't for sure, but should be close. That is kind of the purpose of this post is to see what he will need to charge for them.

OK, picture didn't work, here it is now:

well, this thing looks sweet, but I see no point. I got a cheap one off ebay, it's pot metal probably, but this is a low strees area, not like it is being moved or pushed or anything. But, this is cool. I would post this on other forums; it should work for a KA or SR MAF as well, I would think.

hell I use a metalic thermal sealant tape made for air ducts and it works just fine...

(no its not normal duct tape... but that would probably work too)

It's a very nice piece.. Its even tapped so it will seat properly.. very nice work. Smooth radius going into the MAF? (ala velocity stack?).. Can't tell from the pic.

As everyone said though... won't sell a ton of them since so many people just buy the cheapy pot metal ones and redrill as needed. I've put on several that needed a little "massaging" to the hole locations to bolt on properly... so if you figure they cost $10-15.. then you spend 10-30mins jacking with it.. it'd be worth the $30 to get a quality made piece that fits perfectly.

What else can your boy grind up?..

a velocity stack is designed so that as the velocity increases the pressure is maintained(because quickly moving air drops in pressure)

tell him to start making throttle bodies and you'll see some interest :)

My understanding was a velocity stack was designed to help straighten the airflow and minimize turbulence as it comes into the motor.. especially in the abscense of a air filter (such as in certain forms of racing). I believe thats what you were saying as well.. to a point. More from a pressurized standpoint though?

velocity stack is desgined to well, increase the velocity of the air going into the engine without increased pumping losses, increased air velocity means more air actually gets into the combustion chamber as well as better atomization

the actual design is very compex but velocity stacks are not called horns by coincidence, like I said before the crossectional area decreases proportionally to the pressure drop caused by the increase in velocity of the air, this keeps the actuall force needed to draw air in to a minimum

No velocity stack, just straight. And you are correct it fits nearly perfectly with all the mafs I have tried so far. And sorry I havent had any desire to start producing fabricated parts, i.e. anything requiring welding.

$30 sounds pretty good.. I'll be using my KA SOHC MAF, not sure if its same or diff spacing/dimensions, but I'd be interested in one that fits it.
