what I thought was odd was that there were 2 bikes racing and they only arrested the faster of them. Then they only charged him with reckless driving and driving without a motorcycle license — in addition to the speeding charge.

And yet, if it had been two cars racing, they'd have taken both drivers, all thier passengers, and anybody watching in for all sorts of charges.

Kinda screwed up, I think.

Why in the world did he stop long enough for cops to arrest him? Must have himmed him up in a roadblock or something.

That's really the only way they can get bikes, with airplanes. If they had been clocked by a car they could have made it to an exit and gotten off (most likely) before anyone had time to setup a roadblock. I know where I am the cops are specifically instructed NOT to chase bikes, if one runs, let it go.

Around 130 mph on a bike and that wind is slamming your helmet against your face. I can't image 200+.

My question is, how to you steer at 200mph? You think the torque steer on a '02 Sentra SE-R is bad? Try fighting a two-foot-wide wheel that is spinning at well over 20000 rpm. Ever heard of a fun little toy called a gyroscope? You'd need some strong arms or a nice straight stretch of road. And just imagine if you hit a pothole! No more front fork, no more front tire, and no more skin!

You don't go 200 unless you're going straight. At that speed you would glide over a one foot pot hole. And your brain wouldn't even register that your eyes saw a pot hole and you can't react fast enough when you're travelling at 299.3 feet per second! All you do is hope conditions are right.

Why is everyone making a huge deal out of this? Loads of bikes go over 200 mph all the time... I have a video of a guy doing 258 on his bike

Adding to the problem, this is just the kind of publicity some gov't lackey looking to make a name for himself will use to ban liter bikes and restrict specific power output to something akin to a Vespa.

All in the name of consumer advocate. Mark my words. This stuff gets more and more publicity on MSNBC, CNN and it's say goodbye to your(and mine) precious sportbikes.

It'll be like the assault rifle ban. If you bought a liter bike before the ban, then it's OK to own it. But there will come a day when liter bikes producing 150+HP will be banned, restricted, and the market will never recover.

Quote me, and refer back to this thread where i told ya so, when it happens! Not 'if' but When

on a side note, did any1 pushed the limits of the "jet bike"???

i.e. Jay Leno has one & he states huge lag time from a stop but it exponentially increases speed since the heart of the beast is basically a "retired" helicopter jet engine...

PS: nice facelift of the boardsPPS: i still didn't get my moovie ticket in the mail yet; does it really work? *cough* GEO

heh, dont you go getting political on us now j/k i agree, the cars capable of those speeds are unrestricted because they are so expensive. the bikes are withing grasp of a 16 year old working minimum wage. must look out for the commoners as we havn't the sense to look out for ourselves eh?

The 10 yr old assault rifle ban expired this week and currently has not been renewed.

Thats crazy to go that fast on the street.

That little radar plane cant go near 200mph. Little single engine, 2 seater Cessnas probably struggle to top 100-120mph.

In ATL, they use some tiny helicopter to chase bikes. They couldnt keep up in a drag race, but the copter can travel in a straight line while the bike is braking, cornering, etc. They dont have to catch the bike, just be able to see where its going.

Yes the assault rifle ban has lifted, trust me I've been waiting!!!! High capacity clips for my handgun were included in the ban too, but are now readily available at reasonable prices($20 instead of $85)

But the assault rifle ban is a good example of what will take place. It'll be ok to own one if you already have one, but manufacturers will drop the US market due to gov't restrictions on power and displacement. And it won't be a period ban with an expiration date to look forward to. We'll never be allowed to buy such powerful bikes are we are right now today.

Hah!

This kid is the son of a local Sheriff. He probably wouldnt pay a fine at all if this hadn't made the news.

I have seen that strech of road too. I could picture 200. Just dont get out of the middle of your lane at that speed. Big cracks and potholes.

On the local news here, they took a camera down that stretch of road and then speed up the footage to simulate 205mph. Let me just say that all the trees on the side of the road become a little indistinct. I would never do that on a bike. Its sort of scary on TV.

Stupid is the correct word, and they didn't explain why his buddy didn't get arrested here either. The cop that eventually stopped them said that the slower bike looked like it was going backwards. haha!! The standing still thing wasnt enough....
