bike rack for the roof

i have a 99 qx4, and want to be able to take my bike to places to ride. i dont have a factory trailer hitch, and dont feel like paying to get one mounted along with the cost for a bike hitch rack, so i was looking into some other options.

mainly, something along these lines: http://www.thule.com/en-US/CA/Products/ ... ofCarriers. My main concern is that they would attach right to the factory luggage racks so i wouldn't need additional hardware. i have a 29'er if that also make s a difference.

does anyone carry a bike on the roof, and if they do, what system are you using?
