i was just wondering if getting a larger smic would be worth spending $150. i don't want to spend the 800 (roughly) on a fmic, nor do i really need one right now, but i want something for the next year or so that'll be better than my stock s13 one. i would be getting the s15 smic, though i also saw a larger ARC one. basically, i want to know if it would be worth the money. thanks for helping a new 240 owner.

Not really worth it, in my opinion. I'd save another $100 and get an Ebay FMIC kit. A cheap ghetto way is to use a Toyota 1JZGTE stock smic from a Soarer, or JZX90 (Mark 2, Chaser, Cresta)...it's a LOT thicker than an S15 & nobody wants them. You can score one for next to nothing usually.

thanks for the help and suggestions. i'd like to to avoid the ghetto alternative, so i guess i'll probably just have to save up and wait a little bit longer.

It all depends on teh end goals of the car. A large SMIC is usually very sufficient for most settups people tend to run on SR's. Plus overheating issues are usually non-existent on those with smic's.

If you are going to be running lots of boost on the t25 or even t28 then a large supra sidemount/s15 would prolly be ok (MKIV supra being the best but it takes some cutting). Anything more than that and I would want a FMIC for sure.
