BAD THREAD, DO NOT READ BEYOND THIS POINT. This is coming from the author himself. I thought that a motorcraft FL1 filter would fit my truck, and it almost broke the oil pressure sender right off my truck, which would have caused me a great deal of grief. The filter that DOES fit is called a PH2870A, and it's for a VW 1.8T. It's a little longer than stock, but the same diameter canister, and with the same threads and o-ring size. This filter works great. The PH2870A is Fram specific, but I'm quite sure that other brands would also designate this size using the numbers 2870. This could be cross referenced, (online perhaps), if one would want a brand other than Fram.

Don't do it! Your truck will see that "Motorcraft" logo and puke the filter off out of spite!

Our filter thread dimensions are 3/4-16 and shared with Volkswagen and Subaru. Also some Ford vans use the same filter.

i think this diy:oil cooler from the tech pages (http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=167442) would be cool and you could do the oil reloaction part only and just use that huge chevy filter and then later build the oil cooler to ad to the system.

KA-Truck and KA-240 use the same filter. Up until 96 most Nissans used the same '55Y' filter. In 96 Nissan introduced the smaller '9E000' filter which uses the same filter base, just a much smaller filter.

So the 55Y00 filter would be OK on my '04 Frontier with the KA24DE?

Any idea what the difference between the two filters is, as in why would Nissan want to use a smaller filter?

The '9E000' full name is 15208-9E000.The '55Y' full name is 15208-55Y00. I can only imagine that Nissan is getting a better filtration rate using the 9E000. Switching back to the 55Y might get you a little more oil in the system which will help battle heat a little bit. I have never tried it though.
