bigger alternator = less hp?

Just wanted to verify if this was correct or not. I KNOW it's stupid, but I put in an underdrive pulley & now I want a bigger alternator - long story, sort of.

I figured this should be a separate post

your partially correct. There would be slight decrease in HP, but not much. 1 HP = ~780 something watts. divide that by 14.4

That will give you the amps that you can generate using one HP from the motor. 780/14.4 = ~54 amps per HP. I'll adjust for 70% efficiency and say ~37 amps per HP at 14.4volts. I'll assume that the OEM alternator was ~90 amps. That'd be ~2.4 HP. I'll assume HO alternator = 150 amps. THat's 4 HP.

So, there's only a very slight decrease in HP.

Nothing to worry over.
