I do have a question about the big three. My battery negative cable runs from the battery to the engine (connecting to a metal coolant sleeve) but in the middle there is a factory crimp terminal which was bolted to the chassis right under the battery tray. About a year ago I changed the terminal clamp on the negative cable because the old one stopped clamping down on the negative terminal. In doing that, I cut the old terminal clamp off which removed a small length of negative cable (maybe an inch). I put the new terminal clamp on and the negative battery cable was now pulling on the negative terminal due to the shorter negative cable.
Now I thought that the crimp terminal in the middle of the negative cable was to ground the chassis. To test this theory I unbolted it and started the car and everything worked perfectly fine. I left it unbolted to free up the negative battery cable so it wasn't pulling on the negative terminal. I haven't had any problems yet.
My main question is: does anybody know if that crimp in the middle of the negative cable was supposed to serve as the chassis ground or was it just meant to keep the negative battery cable held down during engine flex?
