I was driving today down the road. Right after I switched gears to 2nd and let on the gas a little, the RPMs started bogging down and I was like what the hell? I hit the gas and the RPMs picked back up and BIG chunks of white smoke started coming out and out of the hood too. But then it didn't throw out any smokes after that. I was wondering if I blew the head gasket? I wasn't driving fast or anything. Also, my friend said that my 'cam sensor' might have oil on it which is probably the cause of it too. It might be throwing out sparks and making everything work unfunctionally stable. He said that his mk3 supra did the same thing except his motor caught on fire because of it. As for me, I pulled over and I smelled something BURNING? It didn't smell like oil burn nor coolant burn. Anyone know where the cam sensor is located at in the SOHC ka24e?

The SOHC KA24E does not have a Cam sensior. It uses a crank angle sensior inside of the distributor. Do not trust everything your friend tells you. Comments like "It might be throwing out sparks ..." from a device you don't even have would make me worry.

Sounds like your head gasket to me. Either that or your timing chain jumped a tooth and caused bad things to happen.

Do a compression test and see what that shows. How does the Oil look? Normal or kind of like MIlk Chocolate? Has your collant level changed?

Did you ever locate the source of the burning smell?

I checked the oil, it is at 75% and the coloration looks like a bit dirty oil (see through). I never located where the smell was coming from. It went away. I tried revving the motor afterwards while the hood was popped opened. A little bit of smoke came out and then never again... atleast not yet again? I'm scared something bad is gonna happen becuz I put so much money into making this car run that I have no more money left to put in it to fix it. I drove to my friends house, which I am at right now to check on things, but it didn't do anything like that so far. It ran perfectly fine. I'm gonna do a compression check and possibly re-adjust the compressions. I already re-adjusted the ignition timing. Maybe it was a timing jump?

The burning smell could have been any number of things from whatever it was getting burned in the exaust.

Something happened to that engine for it to emit smoke.

Blue Smoke = OilBlack Smoke = Unburned FuelWhite Smoke = Coolant

How far did you have to move the timing when you adjusted it?Does the coolent look normal and is it at the normal level?Any chance you injested water into the intake?

Late thought: did you just blow the guts out of your mufflet / cat conv.?Does the car sound the same?
