I was going to put in a spare ka24e in my 240sx and when I had bought it they said it didnt run so I was doing prelim checks. Pull valve cover, drop oil pan, then I got to where I pulled the timing cover to check the chain. this is where I found what I think was the problem why it didnt want to start. first thing I noticed was that the timing marks didnt line up so not to big of a problem. Then I noticed something kinda odd. I found the water passage on the exhaust side was completly packed full of mud. also when I pulled the water pump it was full of mud too. but the hose leading to the water pump on the intake side were completly clean. I dont know about you but whoever this engine was originally built for must have really pissed someone off really bad. So this whole thing I was just . so let me hear your thoughts and anything that crosses your mind about this.

when dealing with timing chains the timing marks are different from mating marks so dont let it confuse you if car was running and mating marks will not line back up with timing marks .. check the crankshaft timing mark than check cams to see how far off tdc is ......

Well, it sounds like the car was run like that, so your engine has probably been overheated pretty bad. Id just scrap it and find a fresh motor.

the reason I dont think it was run like this cause the hoses on the passenger side had no sign of mud.
