Hey guys...i am having terrible issues with spark blowout on my ka. I put the timing at base timing like enthalpy says to. And i have spark blowout as soon as i come into boost. I finally got angry and lowered the spark gap to .022 (previous low was .025) and the car had no problems. Well now i am turning up the boost, from 12 to 15 or so, and guess what has returned! It is really pissin me off. Last week on 12psi, i ran a 13.07@108 and i missed 4th gear three times....My high trap of the night was 113.4 (with a 2.33 60' ft lol).

I have msd 6al, blaster coil, accel wires...and 2 step colder plugs (ngk). I can't lower the gap any more...why do i have this problem? The car made 297hp/302tq on 12 psi.

Any ideas will help...does anyone else have to run this low of a gap?

I doubt its ur plug's/ check wiring to coil . Also what makes you think it is blow out spark in the 1st place>?

the way it sounds.....plus one day i opened them up to .045 so i would know what it feels like without a doubt. The wiring is fine....

I'm not seeing the problem - you are making good numbers for 12lbs. Did you try changing the plugs? I believe the recommended gap is .044 - this should be fine under 20+ psi.

What condition is the cap and rotor in? I have spark blow out issues when my cap and rotor are in rough shape. I have the same igniton setup as you do. I have to gap the plugs to .027 or else I get blowout over 12psi. It would be nice to run the plugs at a higher gap too, oh well, they're only a couple of bucks..

I wish I had an answer, it really pisses me off too.

I ran a .030 gap on my enthalpy tune.... ran 15psi..... when i hit 17psi it'd miss in 3rd.. Make your gap as small as posisble while still having good idle....I run NGK BKR7E cost me 2.25 each buy them in boxes of 10.It's not the ECU, it's your gap or your wiring, or coil/dizzy.Factory gap is .o44 for NA

If you have to lower your gap below 25 you have a problem. The spark plugs should be gapped no smaller the .030 as far as I'm concerned. The bigger the gap the bigger the spark. If you need to reduce the gap, then you have a current issue.

No fuel and timing mod is going to cause or fix a spark blowout problem. The cause of your spark blowing out is a high amount of resistance between the spark plugs' electrodes. Closing the gap is an easy solution as it naturally reduces this resistance. The other solution is to increase the spark energy. A larger coil and/or ignition amplifier is a more expensive, but more effective solution.

i found out last night that my wires were arcing to anything and everything it could find. I went and got some insulating tape and wrapped the wires. The coil wire was arcing against my intake pipe as well. I thought that would fix the problem but it didn't.

I just got a new cap and rotor....lets all hope that works...I am ready to run 350+ to the wheels!

replace all theignition wires. It may or may not solve the blowout problem, but you shouldn't try and repair an existing wire. Internal arcing can occur and that is more resistance in the entire circuit for yout ignition coil to have to make up for.

The cap and rotor did absolutely nothing. I was wrong about the wires i am running...they are NGK not accel. I may swap wires with another 240 before i buy new ones...

I will be dynoing at All Aspects whenever i decide to go back. I just want to drop the 1/4 to a low 12 (very doable at 15psi), but that is not possible unless i fix this problem.
