OK, I have just purchased a 92 240. I noticed that it felt a little slugish when compaired to my old 91 240. So i did a tune up. (new plugs, wires, filters, and a general inspection) I noticed that the distributor was set as far as possible to the retard direction. so i hooked up my timing light and found that the spark was 25deg. BTDC. so i set it to 20deg. BTDC and it was even slower. so i played with the timing and found that it ran best around 45-50deg. BTDC. I pulled off my valve cover to see if my camshafts were properly aligned. I found the lower timing chain to be one tooth off. I correctly set the cam timing, but i still have the same problem. runs like crap at stock timing (20deg.BTDC) and runs great around 50deg BTDC. WTF?????? Ive been scratching my head about this for a while. Any Ideas?

ps. I swapped the distributor out of my old 240 that ran fine and it did not help.

wow 50 at idle runs good?

anyways try putting the cts from your old car on this on. check grounds/resistance

is it runnign on all 4 cylinders(pull one plug wire at a time,or injector plug) All I can say is 50 is way too much

ya, it runs on all four all the time. it actually runs pretty good untill you start getting on it. even with the timing at what gives me optimum thrust, the torque curve feels kinda weird. 2000-3000rpm is on par with my old car 3000-4000 there is no building torque like there should be.4000-5000 some sort of Vtec(dont hate me, ive never owned a honda, but i can imagane) kicks in cuz right at 3900ish i instantly get what feels like 40 more ft-lbs of torque. it pulls to 5ish then kinda tapers off untill it gets to 5500 where the car decides to pull again all the way to 6500. which is weird cuz my old car's torque curve falls off a cliff at 6000. im going to try swaping the CTS tomarrow to see if it helps. with the timing at stock the biggest death of my power is from the 3000-4500 range. weird.....

god damn its not my cts..... just swaped it, backed off the timing, same problem. lumpy torque curve, still runs best at 50deg BTDC. any other ideas?

hmm.... ecu codes... i havent checked that. someone gave me a thought though... what if the crank pully has twisted a little from where it mounts to the crank. is that possible??? isnt there a piece of rubber in there that could slip if something weird happend? as for the tps, i drove the car with it disconected. the olny difference is a little responce lag untill the MAF figures out whats going on. but the torque curve still felt exactly the same. so i dont think its that. im going to take out the #1 spark plug and put a dial indacator in there to find true TDC and see if my crank pully lines up.........and yes...... i am hooking up the timing light to #1 spark plug wire.
