Well, upon draining it, i'm fairly certain that there were 10 quarts of oil in the engine:eek:
Now for those of you that haven't seen any of my other posts, just know that it wasn't me that did this...I'm not that stupid...it was the guy that had the car before me. The oil pressure kept coming up low, so he added a quart each time. I traded my 88 Celebrity straight up for this one, because he told me the engine was blown, so i figured why not? The Celebrity cost me only $200 between the purchase and the little bit of work i put into it.
Anyways, the car still pulled strong the whole way there, but I could definitely hear something tapping in there...although i figured it was the radiator fan, since i could tell by looking at it that it had hit something before from the way it was ground down.
I get to work, boss listens to it at idle, and it sounds perfect...we rev it up and he takes all of 3 seconds and says it's about to throw a rod. Our best guess...when the previous owner put that Rislone oil additive in, it dislodged a large piece of sludge that blocked off the pickup pipe (or whatever you call it for the oil pump) and it didn't put out enough oil, so the pressure was low since the pump couldn't put out how much oil it was supposed to. That in turn probably led to the rods and that area of the engine not being properly lubricated, and therefore ****ing the rod all to hell.
Bottom line: lights out KA
It doesn't really bother me that much, because I bought the car expecting the engine to be blown, and I still have my '89 Honda Prelude SI that I can drive for now....just sorta got my hopes up that it might run good after taking out 10 quarts of oil.
Anyone got a KA24DE I could get off of them for cheap, preferably in the Ohio/Michigan/Indiana area?
