Yeah, I saw that in the paper today. I live very close to where it happened, and go to the 3rd st promenade often. Too bad some old dude who can't tell the difference between the gas and brake has to ruin our fun. Guess we're stuck with pre-black-box cars lol.

In addition to that, I have a better idea: Mandatory vehicle safety inspections. Bald tires? FAIL. Worn rotors? FAIL. No brake lights? FAIL. Fix it and then you can have your plates back.
Couple that with plate seizure for first DUI offense (I don't CARE if it's your mom's car) and vehicle impound for second-offense DUI as well as mandatory ignition interlock and THEN we're getting somewhere.
Maybe a tag (like your registration sticker) for insured motorists in states where liability coverage is required...
I'd also support enhanced vision / hearing / reaction time testing for ALL drivers (regardless of age) every five years.
ALL of these measures would reduce accidents and make the roads safer... But God forbid we should support a PROACTIVE measure that prevents acidents, let's instead come up with yet ANOTHER device to feed the fat litigious bastard lawyers. :rolleyes

The cops and courts are so fast to say driving is a privilege...but yet they keep the keys in peoples hands that clearly cant drive safely...Oh and dont get me started on left hand lane hogs! LOL

Big issue up here for awhile, some provinces won't allow black box evidence. Other provinves are thinking about passing laws which would allow owners of cars already equipped with black boxes to have them switched off or removed.

And how is that a stupid idea? It could potentially cut down on the investigations and the disputed liability cases. Perhaps give a better idea of how severe an impact might have been in regards to injury. It would cut down on one's ability to lie about what happens in an accident. This would promote more fair claims handling and reduce the amount of taxes and insurance premiums spent on legal expenses.

I agree with you there C-Kwik. I'd just hate it to be like, "well, it says you went 110 yesterday, so you must be a wreckless driver.." But for sure, if you really aren't at fault it *could* help prove that.
