Well, I guess if there are no more roomy, durable, cheap to operate body-on-frame sedans left to use, the logical alternative is a roomy, durable, cheap to operate body-on-frame van. Siennas and Caravans offer lots of room and options for taxi-purposed seating arrangements, but aren't exactly durable in the same way a Crown Vic is.
I still find Ford's efforts to market the Taurus and Taurusplorer to fleet buyers like police agencies and taxi services as an UPGRADE over the old CV and Explorer floor-rollingly hilarious. I think Ford's going to suffer for it, at least for the first little while. I'd estimate that 80% of police vehicles in Utah are either Crown Vics or Explorers, and they're those for a reason. Now they'll just buy a bunch of Chargers and...well..@#$%. I guess they'll have to buy Taurusplorers since NOT ONE AMERICAN AUTOMAKER BUILDS A MIDSIZE TRUCK ANYMORE ARGHGHGHGHGHGHGGHGHGHGHGHGH. Maybe they could buy Pathfinders? Or Durangos. Durango might be unibody but at least it's built for utility and not FUELEF#%KINGCONOMY.
