I had my Q transmission flushed on a BG machine Thursday. Today was the first day to really go for a drive after replacing the fuel pump yesterday.

Shifts are much crisper. The most noticeable difference is the quick crisp and very smooth upshift when applying more throttle. Sweet....the old fluid didn't look too bad compared to new, but the difference in shifting is amazing. Shifts didn't seem bad or sluggish before the flush. Now I know.

Had the rear serviced while on the rack. Does the Q require limited slip additive? They put in a tube of BG additive and hit me up for almost $20 for it.

$20 [BG zinc additive] compared to $2900 for a new diff plus labor or $350-$500 plus labor for a used one [that may be worn out [the viscous].

$50+$20 every 2 years [30k] is cheap!

What is the going rate for a transmission flush? Is a BG machine the best?

I paid $173.00. I don't know if it is the best. I did read about it here by doing a search on trans flush. It was the type of machine flush available to me that I had read about here on nico.

I questioned the additive on the rear end because I had to tell the service guy that it was a L.S. diff. I was at a reputable shop and thought he would have looked up the info. What I guess that I really meant to ask was do all L. S. diffs use the same type of additive?

and the following is from the Mobil web site. Do you put in additive or not?

Features & Benefits Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-140 combines wax-free synthesized hydrocarbon base oils and a specially designed extreme-pressure, limited-slip, sulfur-phosphorous additive system including the SuperSyn antiwear technology to provide a significantly higher level of performance in rear axles and differentials versus conventional fluids. Greater film strength at higher operating temperatures, reduced fluid friction and significant advantages versus conventional mineral oil formulations. It reduces wear and spalling under the high speed, high torque and high horsepower conditions in many sport utility vehicles , vans, light trucks , and cars. This unique, high technology final drive gear lubricant has demonstrated outstanding performance including long-term friction retention, excellent viscosity stability and improved differential/axle durability and cleanliness.

The Nissan Quasi LSD [viscous type] is sealed and need nothing special in the way of LSD additive, unlike most American cars which use clutch type LSD. The Nissan viscous LSD can function nearly as new for greater than 100k unless overheated by spinning tires [on car tire balancer errors] or stuck in snow [but cold so less likely]. Most last 150k or better.

The diff gears need the extreme additive protection of BG concentrate. Unless diff fluid is changed annually..........I use and do both for insurance.

If you change the diff fluid annually and use the $20 additive each time, it probably would hurt for any of us to do it at least every 100k right?

Dont let me offend your intelligence, but you pull the drain plug, let it drain, and refill.....

I need to add a writeup on Q45.org
