Hello Everyone,

I have a 1997 J30t with 65,000 miles, and the transmission fluid was changed about 18 months ago. My shop offered to sell me BG synthetic transmission fluid on my next fluid exchange (they have a machine dedicated to synthetic). Given the general high regard of BG products I have (courtesy of this forum), this sounds pretty good, but I don't know how it stacks up against Mobil 1 synthetic transmission fluid. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Chris

It's the first I heard that they made transmission fluid. Are you sure?

You'll find it under Automotive Drive Line Maintenance; BG Synthetic ATF part no. 3125 (on the above referenced website).

Ah, I see it.

"This product may be used in automatic transmissions requiring Ford Mercon V, G.M. Dexron III, Allison C-4, or Mercedes Benz ATF, among others. "

Don't think I'd want to use it. Mobil1 is tried and true.

If you have an adequate external cooler and flush [clean] and change ATF frequently [based on minute color changes]...............basic vs. expensive ATF is less of an issue.

this is my current thought...... my color has changed slightly darker and want to do another flush. plan on getting the filter and gasket but think i'll stick with a good dino fluid but continue to monitor the color and change accordingly. i added the cooler after the last flush, so i should be set for a while........
