Time for tires...

Looking at either the BFGoodrich's Traction T/A or some Yokohama tires for my G35X. Stock specs say I need 215/55/17 but they seem to be more common with the 225/55/17 -any issues if I go to this size?

Also, I see lots of users recommend the Yokohama tires but I see about 3 different models of them and I see some are to be avoided like the plague (despite their good reviews on other sites). Which Yokos are the good ones?

Sorry, I know this has been asked many times so I tried to narrow the question down so it isnt so general! Thanks for any input offered!

no issues with the 225.55.17

Yokohama Avids are good. I have the Avid Yk520 = 60,000 mile tire, great tread, great traction, great temp. Love the tires.

Have virtually no road noise. Love these tires.

I've had good luck with Yokohama AVID H4S in the past, but they are only HR rated.

If you want ZR look at Yokohama ADVAN S.4.

From $125 to $170 ea.

i have the bfgoodrich t/a KDW.... I love them. The only thing i would change is the road noise. Everything else is amazing. The best tire i have ever had in the rain, and the design on them is sick looking too. But if you get damn 60,000 miles out of the other one then i would probably do that

I went with Yoko Avids V4S on my wife's G and daughter's Max.I wanted something that was good dry/wet and still ok in snow.Avids is what I came up with.

I spoke to the guys at Yoko about the YK520/AVIDS/AS430 and they said they were all similiar and to buy the cheapest. I still went with Avids after my local Nissan dealer beat the carries of the YK520 and AS430....Discount Tire and Tire Kingdom. I like giving my $$ to my Nissan dealer since they give me breaks on parts & service.

Ooops-EDITED for stupidity!

I have found the BFGoodrich tires for $94 at Discount. That's not bad but can't decide if I should go for the Yokohama or not...

Looks like I may be selling my body to buy tires but I guess I am willing to do this since tires are...ummm 'somewhat important'

And how about in the snow? Either of you ever have them in any snow? Of course, the idea is to drive my Jeep when it is snowing but the snow can move in unannounced after a 70 degree morning here too...

I'm in Utah. Except the 1 time I was driving in unplowed snow of 1 foot, I never had any traction issues with my YOKO Avids. Great traction in the rain, great on dry.

I woke up at 730am thinking I'd be the first one at Discount Tire this AM, well I wasn't. I had to wait in line!

Anyways, I went in with an online order form from their page and got the Yokohama Avid V4S tires for $650 out the door. Didn't have to even ask for the discount, he just told me he'd match that and also get me the $25 off coupon that is online only. They had to order them so I'll have the Avid V4S tires next weekend (maybe sooner). New windshield later today too..

I was so happy to spend all my money today that I went and waxed my car too-get a lot done when you wake up before noon... Thanks for everyone's input on this one!

Cool!!! I think you will be happy with those.I think my out the door price at Nissan was $710 but included an anlignment, so sounds like a great deal!I like Discount Tire too, it's just my Nissan dealer will match or beat their deals for me & they are closer & they sell me oil filters for < 5 and air filters for < 10.

Would you consider other brands with good reviews-- consider the Kumho Solus or the BF Goodrich G-Force? Both get good reviews, equivalent at Tire-Rack to the ones you're looking at.

Now...I just have to find a way to pass time until I can get them. Mon-Fri is covered by working to pay for them

Thanks Infiniti Chica for the recommendation but since I have those Yokos bought and on their way I will stick with them-appreciate the input though!

The Kumho's are a good tire. I recommended them for my son's GF's I30. Also, put a couple of them on my son's Exploder for Christmas.

Was going to put them on my daughter's Max, but she decided that she wanted the Avids based on her research & mine.

Trying to teach my daughter more & more about cars since she will be leaving us for college in the fall She's got 4 new avids, radiator flushed, transmission flushed, flat tire kit, emergency kit, first aid kit. Will check her battery next to see if its time. Also, got her the AAA prem. membership......

Have I left anything out guys/gals???

Sorry, I should have created another thread asking....

You sound like a good father-- teaching her how to handle herself, about cars, with men, and what not. My dad is really my hero, grew up under a dictatorship, came to US for asylum when he was a teenager, made it on his own and made it through 13 years of college and finished as an MD. I've learned much from watching him and he has taught me by both example and from our conversations. My "hat" is off to you.

Hi uncbeers,

I purchased the Yokohama AVID V4S for my wife's I30 about a year ago. Have been very happy with them. IMO Yoko's are an excellent value for the overall product. They perform well in rain / snow and are pretty quiet. Good luck with the new tires and let us know what you think!!

Assume you are talking V4S, right? I went with them but just have to wait for them to get here (hopefully this weekend). I will let you know how they are when I get to try them! Thanks again for the input everyone!
