Hey, looking for some new rubber for my 2001 QX4.
I want something with a snowflake rating as highways can get icy around here, not tons of snow but low temps. I drive 95% highways and the odd slippery boat ramp and gravel road.

Also looked at the Kumho Road venture with snowflake rating
or toyo open country AT2's without snow flake rating.

950 out the door for the new BFG all terrain T/A K02
little over a thousand for the toyo's
and the kumho's are around 950.

I just wonder if the BFG's will be noisy on the road, or if anyone has any other input on new tires.

You mentioned that your area has low temperatures and highways around there can get icy. why not consider buying winter tires then?
As for BFG All-Terrain T/A K02 tires, it's quiet but just make sure your wheels are good. It looks aggressive and you'll have no complaints when you use it on dirt and mud. It gives nice traction when driven on the snow/ice.

I am just north of seattle in Canada, and the highway in question requires at least an M/S rating but a snowflake tire is preferred.
I'll drive the highway in question maybe 3 times this whole winter season, and there is no snow down around where I live just cold and ice. I'm due for new tires so I'd figure kill 2 birds with one stone with the BFG AT's.

They only come in the LT variety and they are heavier so I am wondering about how the extra weight may affect performance and mileage. Ah well, I think i'll roll the dice on them.

BFG A/T's are slightly noisy when brand new, but as quiet as street tires once they are worn in.

You do feel a weight difference but it's minimal.

BFG A/T is an incredible tire. I got 80k miles out of my last set. My current set has at least one nail in them, possibly two.... they just keep going. I don't pull the nails out anymore. One of the nails went in a tread lug, and came out the side of the tire. It has since worn down and become part of the tire. This is the kind of tire you can take to the tip of South America and back.

They do pretty good in snow, here in California we are forced to carry chains in certain spots but i've never used them. At tire checkpoints, I always see the officers bending down to inspect tires on Subarus and whatnot... the officers know BFG's from far away and always just wave me through.

I went with the Firestone Destinations about six months ago and am pleased with them, overall. I went with them over the BFGs only because the BFGs weren't available in the factory tire size (or anything close) when I was in the market, and the Destinations ranked #2 behind them in Tirerack's consumer ratings chart. The fact they were several hundred dollars cheaper didn't hurt either. They got great reviews everywhere I looked. My only complaint is I feel like they may have gotten louder since I bought them.

I too have the AT Firestone Destinations on my Chevy work truck. They haven't failed me yet, but they look like street tires. I wouldn't off-road on them.

Other SUV has 2nd set of BFG All Terrain's, so far they have been a Fantastic Tire! Only drove in snow a few times and they were really good. Not much road noise, handle well, smooth tire and thats in a 33x12.50. Currently running Bridgestone Blizzaks on the Pathfinder for winter and they have been a good winter tire also (running 245/65/17). Dont think you can go wrong with the BFG's except the price has gone up.

Got the tires on, they look great! a little more road noise, and I like the stiffer sidewalls as it has firmed up the ride.
