Someone tried to do this awhile back. Try using the search feature.

That said, the engine doesn't make more power any higher than redline and, in fact, tops out in power before redline, so there's absolutely no reason to do this.

Very few engines actually make more power past redline. Horsepower is a function of torque and RPM, so when torque starts to fall off enough, the engines stop producing additional power due to RPM.

Short of high comp pistons and a ridiculous cam grind, no engine really benefits from having a higher redline since most mods actually fatten up the already fat parts of the powerband. This is true of any car.

I'm not talking about the trans. The trans will be fine. It's engines themselves that don't make additional power just because of higher rpm. There's no point in being able to rev past where your horsepower peak is, as it's the range between peak torque and peak horsepower that you want to keep the engine in.

High RPM Engines are designed to make power high up (like the AP1 S2000 or RX-8). The SR20 isnt designed to make power beyond 7000 RPM. Only Heavily Modified engines can push past its original designed red line and still make power. i think what your looking for is if the car is redline limited, Electronically limited or what. IIRC the car was Drag limited.

He wanted to raise the rev limit of his GA16DE. My point was that there's no added benefit to doing that since hardly any engines actually make more power in the high rev range (past about 7k) without being modified to do so.

Obviously there are exceptions. Some Honda engines make power on up to 10k, but aside from that there are very few.

As a general rule, however, the stock rev limiter is at a point that is just past the usable powerband of an otherwise stock or lightly modified engine.
