which engine has more aftermarket support? which is easier to turbo? finally, which has more power potential? I'm coming from the world of big block Chevy's so I'm relatively new to this although I've been reading the zines for both for about the last decade or so.

honestly everyone who ever asks this question basically get the same response. if you sohc is in good running condition keep it. if you already have a de than keep it. there is more parts for doch but the sohc version of the motor has many parts too. as for which motor makes more power. there is people on nico making tremendous horsepower with a sohc motor. also the sohc is a little more rev happy i believe. there is a hot cam for the dohc from 93 ka24de i believe which helps a little. all in all both motors are great imo. i would personally stick with the motor in your car if the condition is good.

Well I have two shells w/o motors in them.=) I have SOHC's going into one and the other is for sale.=) It's funny putting a SOHC into what was previously a DOHC car.

right now it may not matter but in a few years when aftermarket companies realize there is a market for ka parts, dohc will have the upper hand. two cams give you more adjustability over cam timing. you'd have to buy a different cam for a sohc everytime to do the same. as far as potential, dohc head>sohc, that goes for anything, not just nissans. i think someone's mentioned sohc's don't have piston squirters. if thats true then the dohc block>sohc block too.

Sohc is a pain and everything has to be custom. It can be accomplished but not as easily as the DOHC.Also being at the moment there is more support for DOHC and companies are competing prices are a bit cheaper foraftermarket support on DOHC.It's growing for both engines but DOHC is in the spotlight.
