Ok so I just got a 94 Pathfinder V6 5 speed manual trans here a few weeks ago and it ran great, untill the other day when I started to loose top end power in high gear. It would not rev above 2000 rpm, but was fine in lower gears. Then gradually it started to loose power thru the other gears as well, 4th then 3rd etc... Untill I was in 1st gear at 20 mph when it quit. No unusual noise from the engine or trans, no smoke out the back or smells... After having it towed home, we checked the usual suspect items, fuel... it has some and it is pumping out the filter when turned over with the hose off..we replaced the filter anyway. Spark, checked at the plug end of the wires doing just fine and the interior of the cap and rotor look to be in good condition. Having read some of the forums we checked and replaced the timing belt, it looked good but while we were in there we replaced it anyway. All sproket marks were in correct position when we pulled it apart. replaced the maf sensor, and still after all of this nothing! Turns over like a champ, has spark, has gas to the cylindars, timing is approximatly correct... but not even a sputter! Any of you real mechanics got any ideas??

MAF sensor was my first guess. You could still be having a fuel issue. Just because fuel is present doesn't mean you have the pressure you need to run. You could have a bad regulator or pump.

Have you tried a code reader? Not all of the codes will actually activate the lamp.

thats a good point, a fuel pump thats going bad can provide enough gas to idle or putt along but when you get the rpms up higher the pump just wont do it.

Good thought... however I do have enough fuel getting to the cylinders to saturate the plugs without even a hint of it trying to fire. So in my mind air and fuel combined with spark should produce SOMETHING.... but not today!? And Yes I do have the check engine idiot light on, but without it running it is a little tought to get to auto zone right now. Thanks for your thoughts though!!

yea if the plugs are wet with gas it should idle at the least. might have to find a friend with a code reader or go buy one (and return it when youre done if you want)

I think there are various tips and tricks you can use with the 2000 and up vehicles to make the MIL blink so you can read the codes. They are a specific pattern of turning the key on and off with the gas pedal depressed and/or the driver's door opened, I think.

I have looked for information like that but have yet to find if there is some way to get it to read. Too bad the newer stuff isnt as simple as my old gmc, it only took a bent paperclip to read the codes....

I know I found this before when my light was on. Unfortunately, the process didn't work for my 3.3L. I can't find them again and I didn't keep the printouts. I was in Harbor freight the other day and they had inexpensive OBD II readers. That might be another option for you.

yea i think everyone who knows how to do more than just put gas in their car should have one in his toolbox, like bmlawless said you can buy off brand ones for dirt cheap nowdays and theyre worth their weight in gold when the check engine light comes on. just dont loan it out or you might not get it back!

OK so back to square one here, the OBD II tester is for 96 and up, mine is a 94 from what I can tell it takes a OBD I Or a tester that has an adapter for both, cheapest one seems to be in the $200.00 vicinity, The local Auto Zone doesnt even have one to use even if I was to drag the truck down there...So after going thru all of the chilton again and some more forum checking my thought was the ignition module. Someone had mentioned it causing the same problem, spark but no run.... Got one, but nothing. Any more thoughts anyone???
