A few years ago I had my J30 completely repainted (it had developed the dreaded rust spot under the rear passenger doors on that weld). As part of the 'package', the shop also completely detailed the interior of the car.

Of course, being the idiots they were, they ended up losing two of the buttons- one of the seat adjustment knobs on the front passenger side (which they replaced), and, get this, the small button that goes on the clock.

They never did replace the clock button.

It's been bugging me for almost 2 years now, driving and seeing that little white straw poking out instead of the black button. Short of making a trip out to the junkers just to find a little black button, any easy fixes for this? I tried the end of a retractable pencil or pen, but they're always too small for the application.

Wow, looking at the post in retrospect, that's a lot of writing for one little button!

That's funny. I've been missing that little button for quite some time now and I feel your pain man. My clock stays on fall time hours, in the spring it's an hour off! I haven't found many J30 junkers around and also seek a quick fix.

You CAN still change the time though. Push the straw and it'll pop out...and you can still turn it....

Funny that there's a thread about this. A few weeks ago I was vacuuming the inside of my car (central vac system in my house).

I put on the brush attachment on the vacuum and was going over the dash and AC vents. I heard this rattle going down the hose and quickly figured out the vac had sucked the tip off of the clock adjustment knob.

I spent a good 45 minuted sifting through the vacuum canister looking for that sucker in the midst of dust, rocks, dirt, cat hair. You get the picture. At least I found it.

Is the knob not available from Joe? Believe it or not I've actually heard of this before. The J30 clock I bought on eBay has the missing knob too - must be very common.

You know, I had that same problem with the clock knob. I lost it several years ago and spent about two years with it staring me in the face and annoying the hell out of me. Then one day I took my car to the dealer for an oil change and the service manager (who I have gotten to be good friends with) noticed it was missing and replaced it for me at no charge.

Ask your dealer if they have any extra ones. That stupid thing can't cost much and if you spend as much money as I do with them the least they can do is replace that for me.

My advice, sweet talk your service advisor for a free replacement.

Good luck.B

I'll keep my eyes peeled for some "replacements" as well.

I'll call Infiniti of Lisle by my house and see if they have any. If they don't have any sitting in the shop, I bet they can order it, how expensive can it be? It's a little piece of plastic! If they give me a price I'll let you all know.

Judging by the response, I bet Infiniti could make some quick cash on owners who've lost them over the years :)

I feel your pain. I just had my bumpers painted by a very reputable shop and had all kinds of hardware missing. Actually when through the trouble of searching through their tool trays to get some of it back. Still missing many pieces.

I'm learning very quickly that I should always DIY if want it done right. Or, I'm going to borrow a digital camera and take as many pictures the next I leave my car with anybody.

I too am missing the clock button. It doesn't bother me that much, but it is annoying. I'm also missing the passenger seat adjustment button. You think dealers keep these in stock?

When I bought my J30, the passenger seat adjustment button was missing and the dealer (non-Infiniti) had one ordered for me.

I'll have to do that tomorrow. Also, the parts diagrams on your site are invaluable Carlos. Anyone who owns a J should bookmark your site.

P.S. Do you have anything on interior bulb part #'s. One of my "personal" lights on the dome is out and before I take it apart, I would like to get a replacement. The owners manual doesn't specify what bulb it is. Thanks in advance.
