Good Day all!!
So I am a new D21 owner. Love these trucks only took me 20 years to get one. I have a 94 VG30E 4x4 SE automatic. Need to change alernator belt. I need to know how to get belt in front of alt. belt off? What I read tells of bolt with lock nut for adjusting tension on this front belt. For the life of me I cannot find this. I think I see a pivot bolt I could loosen through passanger side upper pulley. (air pump? ) lift this unit slightly out notch in bracket, relieving tension to remove belt. install alt. belt. reinstall fron belt, push unit back into notch, and retighten pivot bolt through pulley. This seem about right? Or am I missing it all together?

Hey Dice,

With the '93 that I had, the Owner's Manual,, explained how to change the belt's.

The Service Manual,, will also explain how to change the Belt's. There may be a link here to download the service manual.

Online help is a good way to get advice,, but an Owner's Manual,, and a Service Manual,, are 2 thing's that a DIY Owner needs to have,, cause not all online advice is correct.

If the Nissan Service Manual isn't downloadable,, aftermarket SM's are available online, or at O'rielly's, Advance, Auto Zone,, etc.

I changed out the belt's on the '93 D21 4cyl, right before I sold it,, and on that motor,,it had Belt adjuster's that I just loosened up to take the belt's off. On the Alternator Belt,, I had to swing the Alternator in to get that belt off, after loosening the Belt Adjuster. To swing the alternator in,, I also had to loosen the Alternator Mounting Bolt, but don't forget to tighten it and recheck the belt tension,, as it may change after tightening the mounting bolt.

All above was on the ka24e 4cyl., so it'll probly be different on your 6 cyl.

Good Luck

Thanks much! Your right everything I. Read talks about these very simple tensioner bolts with lock nut. Can't see it. Alt belt will be a snap once I figuure front belt out I think I got owners manual here. SM pics I saw very basic no actual locations shown. Thanks for your help

My memory isn't very good now. I've done it several time's on the ka24e engine, and I think there is also a nut that has to be loosened before the tensioner can be loosened or adjusted.

I'm thinking that once you see it,, you'll see the bolt that has to be loosened before the tensioner can be adjusted.

Careful,, not to get the Belt's too Tight. If too loose,, you can tighten them up. If too tight,, the bearing's on the component can burn out. The book will give you the Flex Spec to get the proper tension.

Also if the belt is doing good,, check the tension,, so that you'll have an idea of the proper tension.

Don't worry,, you'll do fine, and feel good that you did it yourself.

Good Luck

My goodness. Mine was a '93,, and they allready started takeing out the belt change direction's for the '94. Amazing.

Doesn't surprise me though,, cause I've got older small engine manual's,, that tells me how to adjust the Fuel Mixture,, but the Newer Manual's say to take to Service Center.

I guess it's about liability stuff,, and Lawyer's waiting for an opportunity.

The service manual,, will have the belt tension spec's,, and there may be a downloadable manual here or @ one of the other Nissan Site's.

Nissan wanted something like 200 $'s for my '13 Frontier Service Manual,, but I downloaded it for Free @ one of the Nissan Site's.

The Chilton Manual or other Brand Manual's,, usually have some pic's and also explain about changeing the belt's.

Same here,, I don't want to go out in the Garage in this cold weather. It'll warm up again,, and then we can get back to the "Do List".

Good Luck

All good found tensioner swaped belt. Done. Only thing I question is remaining distance on Alt tensioner not very much play left. But is for sure correct belt. Wonering if alt or water pump pulley are after market and a tad smaller? Anyway rolling again thanks Rubble

Glad you got it going again.

I don't know about the after market belt's on the Alt, WP, & PS. On my '93,, I had an after market AC System,, and had an after market belt on the Compressor, but didn't have any problem's with it.

Thank's for letting us know, & Good Luck
