Well I am glad I asked the question because you guys know the important information when it comes to this motor, that why I love this forum . You are going to have to forgive me though because I am sure I am going to post some noob questions in the near future since this is my first shot at VH motors, SR was already completed twice. I am not sure i should just ask here or make a new thread but besides what I list below what else will be required for swap....I found a nice clean 94 which I plan on completely rebuilding while the engine is out of the car through a friend:1-Engine LOL 2- Motor and transmission mounts3- ECU4- Wiring Harness5- Driveshaft6- 300zx transmission

What else would I need so that I can get it all in one shot??????? THanx again

npez,

Go look at your motor and see if it has square plugs or rounded plugs in the injectors and put this debate to rest.

My 94 VH came out of a Active Susp/Traction Cont car and it HAS SQUARE INJECTORS. I'm not an idiot, I know what I'm looking at, and I'm telling you I have a 94 with square injectors. So wherther it was a mid-year change, I don't know, because I don't have the build date of the car.

If your car has square plugs on the injectors, your 555 Nismo injectors for your 93 Z will work, since all 93 Z's had square injectors. If not, they won't work, but you can get older VH rails easily. I have a couple spares laying around and I will give them to you. I'll even send you the set out of my 94 motor, since it has square plugged injectors.

Mine has the clip on rounded plugs not like the square plugs on my 555cc (I took my nismos out of the box to compare the connector) injectors for the Z.

Steve, I don't think anyone is implying that you're an idot - I think elwesso, and others can vouch for this as well. Quite the contrary, based on what I've seen of your work and our conversations on this and other posts. I believe Nissan just did some very strange things sourcing components for these motors and it's causing some confusion out there as to what motor has what....

Thank you for your very generous offer on the rails - I really do appreciate it. What I'm planning on doing is taking a stab to call Z1 motorsports and see if I can exchange the injectors (since all of mine are still in the box) to the 95+ Nismo's for the Z and at the same time buy two more to complete the set of 8. If this is doable it should let me just plug and play correct? If they can't exchange them, then I'll go the route of keeping what I have and will most definitely take you up on your offer.

Thanks again - I really do appreciate your feedback.

Nick.

Gotcha... Must be a mid-year change then

I just get frustrated easily in the morning, my appologies for venting...

No problem, another option is to sell my buddy your injectors. I think he was looking for a set of 555's for his fiance's 93 TT... Then you could buy 8 of the correct type.

I called Z1 and as cool as always they are going to do an exchange with a 15% restocking fee (mind you I placed this order 2 years ago!) - they're looking up the order as they're on a new system. Another interesting tid bit I found out from them - were you aware that the newer style 555cc injectors while called 555s, actually flow 615cc? This will really help me when I go higher boost as I won't need to mess with the base fuel pressure this way. So it looks like I'm going to have my 8 injectors ordered today....

Thanks,Nick.

Hey after all the questions about the injectors and ports I might have missed info on this, but my question is can you swap 95 heads on to a 92 motor without issues?

I'm going to say yes. However, it is not just the heads that are needed... heads, valvecovers, upper timing covers, CAS, Cas needs to be wired, lower intake runners...

I must be getting old.

I went and took another look under the hood of the '94 and it does have VTC. How the hell I overlooked those 2 golfball sized solenoids I'll never know.

Everything else that I stated in my post above is correct though, I will add a couple pics later just for verification.

Sorry for the misinformation.

I know this post is rather old, but I was doing some research and wound up here, and I figured maybe some others might as well, and they might want to see this:

Ok so 90-94 have VVT? But the only improvements the 94 has over the 90-93 is the fact that it has updated fuel injectors and oval intake ports instead of siamese ports?

94+ should also come with the metal-backed timing chain guides as well unless you get lucky with a pre-94 that was serviced and got the updated guides.

And I'm not sure the oval intake ports are necessarily an improvement. Just my opinion though
