I can't recall one failing before 90-100k ... would that be considered a premature failure?tmak26b wrote:Did they ever redesign the fuel pump, which seems to be a common problem on the 90-93
Fuel pump is nor a maintenance item listed for periodic replacement in owners manual, rather it is replaced when it fails, or before it fails by astute owners who recognise the noise it begins to make signaling its old age. Best to replace at first notice of noise in order to prolong life of the more expensive pump control module.tmak26b wrote:I don't see fuel pump as a 120K maintainence items in the owners manual. I guess if you want to replace it, it's okay.
Not all parts are considered scheduled maintenance (alternator, water pump, AC compressor, etc), I say this falls into that category. Mind you I'd like for all these types of parts to never fail, but they do. What would be considered a "reasonable life" for a fuel pump?tmak26b wrote:I don't see fuel pump as a 120K maintainence items in the owners manual. I guess if you want to replace it, it's okay.
If what you said is true you should have every piece that moves or contains rubber replaced by 120k as the maintenance. Man the dealer would love that, "that'll be $10,000, we accept cashiers check, or your gold card" Of course they're not going to put it in the owners manual!!!!!tmak26b wrote:I don't see fuel pump as a 120K maintainence items in the owners manual. Depends if you believe in preventative maintenance or drive it till it breaks and you're stranded maintenance. A neglected fuel pump will take out your FPCU, which is twice as expensive. A lot of the systems in the car are that way; neglect something minor and you end up replacing something major.tmak26b wrote:I don't see fuel pump as a 120K maintainence items in the owners manual.
