I'm a little biased but I would go with the 2005 SE-R. I have a 2005 3.5 SE myself. I like it vs. my mother-in-law's 2002 2.5S, my cousins 2000 SE and my sister-in-law's 1997 GXE.

1st gen Altimas are U13s I think. Late 1992 (Stanza-Altima) - 1997. Used a KA24E and KA24DE.2nd gen, U14, 1998 - 2001. KA24DE3rd gen, U15, 2002 - current. QR25DE and VQ35DE.

Just fixing some info

1st gen altima 93-97 used a KA24DE and an OBDI and a 97.5 used an OBDII2nd gen altima 98-99 used a KA24DE and an OBDII 2.5 gen altima 00-01 redesigned +5 extra HP (mostly likely form a different intake mani)3rd gen altima 02-now

Best year I think is the 2000Or 1994 that has many more performance options then other years.
