i have had my V since Monday night (4/30) and wonder what is the best product to use to protect the interior plastic and exterior plastics.

I used Meguiars NXT Generation Tech Wax on the outside painted surfaces and can't be happier. I scotchguard coated the carpet and interior fabric. Now i need to protect the rest.

The dealer tried and tried to get me to purchase the sealant package for $499. With another new car i was a sucker and actually got it. The remove the stain or replace it is BOGUS. I had a coffee stain on the carpet and they refused to replace it after they could not get it out. They stained the carpet which still made the stain visible. I traded in the car after having it 8 months.

What are you using for products?

Thanks for your input!!!

I use the new armor all gel on the black plastics. I'd stay away from silicone based product. Although they provide the most shine, silicone based products tend to be ultra slippery/wet/goopy for extended periods of time. So they tend to pick up every bit of dirt. They aren't greasy, provide a nice shine, and you could even put it on the steering wheel without it being slippery. I'd stay away from tire shines, they also attract tons of dust and dirt. I've also used spray detailers with good results.

Interior: Go buy some cans of scotch guard and start spraying.

I use Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Protect for the interior vinyl and plastic, Meguiar's makes a cleaner/protectant for the exterior plastics, I'm sure you can find it in the same area of the Tech Protect if you pick that up.

Armor All Tire Foam is the way to go if you want some shine to your tires and want to protect them from brake dust and dirt. I've been using it for the longest time, and it works great. It won't give you that extreme wet look, but it gives a deep matte black look to the tires, which is good on tires with more sidewall.

armor all speeds up the time it takes for the dash to crack and fade.

Not true. This is a fallacy which has been going around since the late 70's. Armor All was only known for cracking vinyl and plastic when they used their original formula, but now it works just fine. Most people don't like it because it is so greasy or because they know a better product, but if your dash is cracked and you've used Armor All, chances are that it is from something else.

The best I've seen is 3M Marine Vinyl cleaner and restorer. Try it .

I find that using a damp cloth works fine. I've heard that Armor All isn't good so I'm not going to risk it. BTW my dash looks great (I still don't have my Versa yet... this is on my Beetle).

Yea it really isn't, I really love to use coconut creme on plastic interior and exterior panels, but the V is still too new for me to go to that extent, and till this day I have still not used polish on the interior except for the running sills on the inside as this gets a lot of traffic, dirt, and scuffs. The coconut creme makes the interior smell great while adding shine and protection, but a lot of people do not like it as it is quite oily. I like to put it on, and take a clean rag and wipe it all off, still shiny, and next to no oily residue.

I find that using 3 microfiber rags, one to apply and two to buff, with the NXT Tech Protect works very well. It leaves just enough of the product to add depth and reduce oiliness, I have no hesitation of putting it on my steering wheel. I personally do not like Armor All products because they are very oily and attract a lot of dust, but I've never heard of them definitely causing "problems."

What about butter and chicken grease. I find that these work well even on skin. J/K So are you talking about like regular coconut cream people use? Like the stuff that my wife buys at Bath and Body Works?

The "Armor All" thing is NOT a myth.

Armor All leaches the plasticizers from vinyl and plastic and replaces them with silicates - it has NO UV protection!!!!

The ideal product available right now for plastic and vinyl (for interiors) is 303 Protectant, which you can order online or from a marine (boat) shop.

A close second: Vinylex - Comes in a blue bottle and can be bought at PepBoys.

Stoner's TrimShine is good for exterior black trim.

Use the rest of that ArmorAll crap on your tires, since they'll be worn before the real damage is done anyway.

no I mean coconut creme shine and protectant, around here they sell it at the swap meets for $10, same stuff they use at car washs on your tires, exterior panels, interior panels, and basically any rubber or plastic. Lasts for a hell of a long time. I remember doing every nook and cranny of my 01 Mustang GT with it one time, including the top (that was a pain in the *** to buff off but I did it) And wherever it was, it lasted for probably 6 months you could still tell it was shiny except for the tires of course as the speed of them and all the dirt that gets on them wear out within about a month.

Next time I go to the swap meet I will see if I buy a bottle and snap a pic to show you what I am talking about.
