Best way to mount body kit

Finishing up prep on my body kit and want to figure out the best way to mount the kit on a drift car (S13), aka, needs to be easily removable if hit or getting onto trailer. My boyfriend and I have been arguing about it for the last few days....I did some searching and didn't come up with much. Not using bumper supports.

yes, I know to use zip ties, but where and for the sideskirts as well? I'm looking for photos and/or describing where to attach.

We mocked it up and there are the obvious places to put the ties, but at the tops for the bumpers there isn't anything to attach a zip tie to....do we drill holes, make tabs, use bolts, what?

My bf hates the idea of zip ties because everyone that he has seen use them has their kits fall off mid drift. What are people's experiences here since those other people might not have done it right. We don't want the kit falling off and want to to it right the first time without it looking like ***. Detailed answer would be appreciated. Thanks for the replies!

zipties in my opinion.

If you bolt it on and then happen to break it off while driving, you will break all the mounting holes.

If you ziptie it on and then happen to break it off while driving, you will break all the zipties.

Is your car super low? Will it scrape the ground a bunch?

I've broken my bumper off on the street a few times. That sucks, but then again my car was super super low and scraped everything.

If you want it to be easy to mount/dismount then ziptie it.

Some people might suggest those goofy *** latches. I wouldn't. They look like garbage.

for the 180 front end, I figure you would ziptie it when the hood is open. Probably have 4 spots in there by the radiator support.Then put one of two down in the fender opening.

I'm with everyone else on the ziptie thing...

quick and easy. they also sell super strong 50lb ones... so if your bumper or something falls off... its not the ziptie that broke.

See latches are only cool on race cars because they actually have them cut in like so^^ On a ghetto street car not so cool.

^^ especially on a drift car, where chassis flex and **** breaks.... nothings going to fit perfectly like it should... so latches won't be a good idea, because you're going to be sitting in the pit/ parking lot for like half the day trying to line things up just so you can clip it...

as opposed to zipties, open them up, and pull them close together... bam! back to the track.

i have my stuff zip tied on the inside lip that is by the wheel if that makes sence

Thought about ther Dzus fasteners, but they are expensive and not the best option. For a street car I'd think they'd be good though.

I think one of the problems we're having with zip ties especially with the front bumper is that the core support cannot support anything since we took most of the stuff out for the intercooler/rad setup. Trying to support the weight of the bumper with zip ties might just make it sag.

Here is a pic of the front of my car...anyone have some interior (under hood, etc) pic of your zip-tie mounts?

i mounted a lip on my 3000gt using (nutserts). i have never seen them before and they worked pretty well. you drill a hole where you want to mount them put the nutsert into place and then use the gun supplied with the kit. it has threads on the gun that screw into the nutsert. then you squeeze the trigger, this clamps the nutsert onto the mount point in the back. now you have threads on the body and an easy way to mount/dismount body parts. i just had my car sent back to the paint shop cuz my aunt scrapped the rear 1/4 panel. so i dismounted the lip cuz the shops driveway is super steep, but the lip came off super easy, no problems at all!check out this site, they have a flash demo of how it works, hope this helps

zipties r the best try to find some thicker than ordinary zipties to avoid them from ripping off i actually ziptied my whole front end with some zipties that were about half inch thick that i got from a friend and they worked great, i didnt have any problems with them ripping of at all,obviously they are harder to take off but nothing a good set of wire cutters cant do...

wow thats way diffrent that what i thought it was going to look like.

on the side note.. are you running the factory turbo? im trying to figure out what the pcp pipe is running infront of the timing cover.. all i can think of is is that its for the coolant for the turbo. im looking to getting rid of my intake and upgrade to something along the lines of your greddy one.

No, not stock turbo and its had this turbo since I bought the engine so I don't know what would be there for stock. Intake is wonderful for your throttle response.

zip ties are your best friend for something high abuse!

sht happens and its easier to deal with that then broken supports

zipties are ok. but how about rivets? with tiny washers so it dosent crush and rip out of the the fiberglass or whatever your body kit is made of, they can be drilled out quick if you need to remove something, might not work though since I never tryed it, just an idea
