I will be installing a Greddy LS FMIC soon. I don't like chrome and I don't want the attention, so I'm thinking of painting or powder coating the front of the ic. The LS is all fins, no bars, so what's the best way to go about it?

there must be a way, in order to rechrome wheels they have to de-chrome them first. I think they do it with some sort of chemical bath

I assume it's not chrome... it's polished. Just don't ever re-polish it. It will start to dull on it's own. Or if it really bothers you, you can take sandpaper and go over with back and forth motions as straight as possible. This will give a brushed look to it. The only other option is to use black radiator paint. Only use this type of paint though. Any other type will cut down on the cooling effectiveness of the front mount. The pipes you can paint, powder coat or whatever floats your boat.

Oven cleaner will dull it BADLY, then you can paint it.

I just don't want the IC to be that obvious, kinda make it look like the AC condenser or something. I'm in Cali, ya know.
