How large a "budget"?

Holset hy35 9cm exhaust housing approx $100 used. Dodge Cummins auto.

Holset hx35 12cm exhaust housing approx $250 used. Dodge Cummins manual.

The hy will spool faster, but the hx will support quite a bit more power.

I think 350 hp is a little more involved and expensive than you might anticipate.

If I did it over again I'd probably get an rb25 turbo, and save money until I could do what I really want, properly.

RB25 turbo's require least modification and make pretty damn decent gains for the cost of $$$ and time.

Of course, these rb25 guys that sell their turbos have found out that us rb20 guys actually value their old worn out turbo's, and charge upwards of $250!! Me and my roommate picked one up for $100 a while back.

Good luck..

turbochargers.com will modify the stock RB25det turbo and the end result is a turbo capable of 400 plus.i know couse this is the route i went with my rb25det. they say it is capable of 450 but i can not vouche for that.it only cost me 650 plus shipping

OK, bolting on an RB25 turbine is not worth the time it takes to do it, let alone the overpriced factory turbine.

.8 bar is about the max daily boost for an RB 20/25 turbine. I've seen 1 bar (14.7 psi), but they always pop pretty quickly.

RB's use a T3 flange. T25 is an SR flange and T25/T28 is an S13/S14/S15 turbine.

Do the Holset. HY for quicker spool and it'll make 350hp easy. HX35 for still pretty good spool and the potential for 450hp'ish if you crank up the boost later.

I spent a couple hours on Monday researching the Holset turbines. I'm pretty sold on them.

What all else needs to be done to accomidate adding a holset turbine(other than the obvious supporting upgrades)? Will I have to worry about it hitting my stock (log) exhaust manifold?

Holset HX and HY are BOTH T3 flanges.

What would you need to have an hy35 or hx bolt up to the stock manifold...Also could you use the internal gate from the holsets?

I don't know it it'll clear the stock manifold. I think the HX35 might, but you'd have to mock it up. I'm just using a HKS cast bottom mount mani.

I think one of my friends has this turbo on his DSM. he did make 412hp with the turbo. Too bad he had to run 32psi to get there.

I'm running 1.5 bar (around 22psi) on mine with stock everything. Never had the head off. It still pulls pretty nasty around 1.1 bar (17psi?) Just guessing, but I would GUESS between 350rwhp and 400rwhp with an HX35 at 1.1 bar with a 1 bar of boost by 3700rpm in 3rd gear. Maybe better with cams.

Ah, I just remebered this is and RB20. Nix what I just said. Make that 1 bar by a little past 4000rpm, and subtract 25-35hp from those figures unless you want to run a lot more boost. I think 93 octane is only good up till about 1.6 bar at 8.8:1 compression.
