hi im new to the site so i hope it will b helpful i just got a 1992 sentra e 1.6 dohc with a 4 speed manual trans i want a 5 speed for the top end and gas whats the strongest swap ??????

There are no swaps for your benefit. If you want a 5 speed, your best bet is to do the 1.6 to 2.0 swap, this will give you the 5 speed transmission. This is a detailed swap and probably not worth it just for the sake of having a 5th gear.

ok how can there not b a direct trans swap when the same engine is in the other models with the 5 speed trans

I don't know anyone that has ever done a 1.6 transmission swap. You can obviously try one from the other models that have the 1.6 engine and a 5 speed transmission. I can't say if it will be a direct swap or not. Guess there is only one way to find out.

lol ok thank u for the somewhat of help i guess ill just have to try it and find out i dont c y a 5 speed trans for a xe model with the ga16de wouldnt fit onto the e model with the same engine i just wanted to c if neone had done it before i was thinkin bout goin with a 200sx trans but i think ill just go with a sentra xe instead just in case

I've got a 1993 Sentra with a 5sp, thinking if the G20 5sp would be a possible swap for my car. Don't know if there's even a difference.

If your 93 is an SE-R, a G20 will work. Otherwise you'll have to use one from a 91-99 non-SE-R Sentra or 200SX.

My NX has a 1.6 from a 95 sentra and a trans from a 96 sentra 5 speed ... it was direct fit. I'm pretty sure both cars still share the same bottom half, but, may be wrong on that. Can anybody tell us if there's a difference between his 92 1.6 and my 95 1.6?(aside from EFI) And while where here is the 200sx transmission any different then my 96 sentra transmission as mine just blew a syncro rod ... surprise ...

I've just become aware of a '92 SE-R for sale locally at $700.

Well, guess that really wouldn't be a help. Unless do the whole engine/trans into my chassis.

Yeah, and is there any diff with the 1.6 200sx trans and the 1.6 Sentra?

Since I've done some inadvertent gear-grinding, my trans is ready for a replacement. My buddy Nissan mechanic does say plenty of cheap replacement trans available. I'd just like some tighter gears between shifts. Don't care about loss in mpg as in high 30's now.

No difference between the 200SX and Sentra trans. I don't think there's anything you could swap over with tighter gearing, though.
