I did some searching and all I see is to NOT use Nissan/Infiniti paint. Didn't see anyone recommend a good touch-up for small chips. I've decided that I may as well invest in a clear bra and the people who will do it will do the touch-up as well if I bring the paint. I assume finding black shouldn't be too tough, right?

Thanks!

Depending on what the dealership uses, you could end up with many different paints. It's not like the factory ships the dealerships paint. They buy their paint from the local body shop suppliers. Here in Olympia, the dealership uses DuPont.

What color is your car? If you have the Diamond Graphite (WV2)<- paint code, I have a little extra and can send you a small bottle.

Appreciate the offer Bean but I have black. I'm thinking for that reason it can't be that tough to find any touch-up paint (maybe even DuPont)?

My understanding is that black is one of the easiest paints to match.

I bought some duplicolor (recommended in their catalog) and it worked pretty good, still needs work to get it to match in texture, but that's not a big worry of mine ATM.

Black is not as simple. Pearl white is one of the hardest one. I would go to the dealer first. It doesn't mater how good it is if they going to put clear bra over it. It should hold up anyways.

For simply touching up rock chips the touch-up pens they sell at the dealership should match without a problem.

I have to get one as well as I have a rock chip at the edge of my hood and a gouge near my headlight. The clear bra is doing well for the rest of the car at least but those areas are not covered.

I'm sure Infiniti has them as I know Nissan sells them. I picked up one for my Maxima a few years back (too many rock chips, no hope ).

According to Don (my paint and body friend at Nissan) the black can be a real PITA to match. If you don't have the paint code, or know for sure which black you have, there is a mojor difference in reds and blues as well as the quantity of pearl powder that goes into the mix.

The Diamond Graphite paint looks like a simple silver/grey mix, but:

Bright Coarse Aluminum - 7.2LS Fast Blue - 5.8Flop Control Agent - 4.2Jet Black - 2.8Blue - 1.3Transparent Maroon - 0.5Transox Red - 0.5Rutile Red Pearl (powder) - 1.5 B/C Balancer - 61.6Binder - 23.2Thinning Agent - 88.3Activator - 20.3

The numbers represent weight in grams. That is the formula for 8oz sprayable. Which is a 4oz mix and then a thinner and activator is added.

So I did some touch-up today with my basic old black pen and it had really good results. These were in areas that are rather invisible (around the tires, etc...) and I am happy. I will give it a very close inspection in the morning when I can see them well (daylight savings stole an hour of my daylight today) and decide what I want to do with the more visible areas. There is truly just one chip that I think would be rather visible so that is my only concern. The others are quite small but I don't want the clear bra going on right over them without any small paint detail first.

I do appreciate all the help and will report back!

Separate note...it's November and we just had 70+ degree days here in CO this weekend. I should have used those to work on my Jeep but of course, the G got the attention. Here's to hoping the warm weather stays for a few more days/weeks! Not ready for snow yet...
