Its time to purchase tires for my wife's 2001 Infiniti QX4. I need a tire that is quite, has good wear, and good for primarily interstate use. Vehicle is not used off-road. It currently has a set of BF Goodrich Rugged Trail T/A tires and they have been good. Will I get better fuel mileage without a T/A tire? Im not sure if that matters or not. Average city mpg is 16 and best highway mpg I ever got was 19.8 Anyhow, what tires can you guys suggest for me to look into?

thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris.

Most everyone has a different opinion on what the best tires are. The questions you'll have to ask yourself are-
- What will you do with the tires? Mainly street driving?
- How is your weather? Do you live where it snows or ices? If you update your profile to reflect your location, it'll help others with suggestions.
- How much does comfort matter to you?
- How much do you want to spend?

The best advice I have for you (I'm not a QX guy) is to pop on to Tire Rack and start looking at highly rated tires based on user reviews and compare them to the vehicles that best come close to yours- SUV, Body on frame, 4WD, etc.

Good luck!

I also use my Q for city driving... no "serious" off-roading since owning it.

I got my tires from CostCo :)
Without running out to the rig to confirm, I believe I have these: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... oModel=QX4
All I know is that they were called "Michelin Latitude" by the tire installer. Not sure if there are different types of Latitude model or not.

I don't experience very noisy road-noise, but on the same note - I am not very sensitive to road noise. I guess one way to measure this is that I can still hold a conversation with the back seat passengers just as well as most other early model cars (*early model implies that the newer cars today have cabin noise reducers and such).

and since they are CostCo purchased tires, they are guaranteed to last you at least 5years, or CostCo will prorate you the time of premature wear.
For example, if you purchased a single tire for $200 and for whatever reason they wore down (under normal use of course :naughty: ) to 2/32" within 2.5years (2.5 for easier math :chuckle: ) which is 1/2 the time they guaranteed at 5years, they'd refund you $100 for the tire.
