I just bought a used 2007 M35x and was sad to see that Infiniti uses the crappy Goodyear RSAs. My question is what tires would people recommend as a replacement? I appreciate any suggestions.

Continental ContiExtremeContacts. Very good dry, wet and snow performance and helps if there are any tramlining problems. It’s a very good all-season tire, although separate summer/winter tires would even be better.

Welcome to NICO!

There are lots of tire recommendations (including in the stickies). Please do a search and see what you find.

Are you looking for a summer tire or an all-season tire?

I am looking for something all season. I am probably going to limp along with the RSAs on my M35x this winter (have realized already that these tires are horrible) and then buy something in the March timeframe.

My Maxima currently has Yokahama Avid V4S tires and I am happy with those...I also heard some prefer Continentals...I am just looking for any and all opinions.

Thanks

If you plan to stick with all-season tires (btw, there are reasons you should not), then the Continental ExtremeContacts, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus, and Goodyear Eagle F1 All-Season are probably the best choices.

I am not as familiar with some of the ones mentioned here and in other threads.

I've always been a Michelin person myself - the Pilot line has excellent grip and treadwear and has never caused any issues for me. The only downside is that they usually are a little more expensive than other brands, but my opinion is that you get what you pay for.

The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus is probably the best all-season tire you can buy. The Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S is also an amazing all season tire.

For additional information an interesting resource is TireRack.com. They provide ratings/rankings of tires based on user surveys. Find a tire that you like and you can see how it’s rated. On the tire’s page, there should be a link that says "compare this tire to other xxx tires" and if you click on that link it will display the ratings/rankings of all similar tires. For "Ultra High Performance All-Season" that fit a M35X, the following are the top 5 rated tires: 1) Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position, 2) Yokohama ADVAN S.4, 3) BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/s 4) Continential ContiExtremeContact , 5) Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Of course, this is just the accumulation of opinions and not based on anything scientific, but it probably has some validity regarding how the tires perform. Its worth checking out.

Good observations about checking out Tire Rack and I also forgot to mention the above tire. Thanks!

Andy: How are your Conti's working out? I've been back and forth from Rossland, BC w/all this snow and I've had no complaints myself.

I have owned a 2006 M35X for 5 years. Big problems with tramlining (pulling to left or right on uneven or grooved roads). You will see many complaints from owners online. My research shows that as cars were built in Japan, their tires have a softer compound and sidewall. I live in Canada and when I put my winter tires on (which are a softer compound) the problem is greatly reduced. After at least 6 alignments and premature wear on tires, Inifinti dealer here suggested that Michelin Pilots showed to reduce this problem the most. Infiniti should still be subject to a class action suit in my opinion... Dangerous to all owners.

Dangerous? Not sure I'd go that far. It's a minor inconvenience/annoyance.

I've had Conti Extreme Contact DWS on my M35X for 4 years. Great all around performance tire. 0 tramlining.

Those are good tires, yes! I had them one time on my 2003 M45 ... very similar in wear and handling to the Michelin Pilot AS I also had another time (can't remember if it was right before or right after the DWS).

Since I am not in cold weather, I now use and love the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Expensive (although not outrageous), but totally amazing handling and braking in wet weather ...

As long as the weather does not drop close to freezing (like right here in the SF Bay Area), I will continue to use these. In fact, I am about to get yet another set ... my tires are down to 3/32" of tread and rainy season is not too far away now.

On my 06 M45, I went from Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus (too loud) to Continental ExtremeContact DWS (not so great in snow) to Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position (got really loud as tread wore) to Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 (liked the original DWS except snow, and got separate snow tires) to the Yokohama tires recommended by the big box store that gave my money back on the DWS 06 (may have been defective tires, but didn't want to risk buying another set). The Yokohama tires are loud and don't grip as well as the Michelins, so I'd recommend the Pilot Sport A/S 3 to anyone who wants best performance and wish anyone who wants a quiet ride the best of luck.

ETA: To be clear, the only tires listed above that I didn't keep for their entire life cycle were the DWS 06 (again, possibly defective, tire shop refunded) and the Yokohama it'll be a while before I wear another set of tires down now, driving less miles + have snows).

I bought the Conti DWS 06 back in May and they have been great so far, though I haven't driven in the snow yet. I did go through 2 sets of the original Conti DWS on an 04 Acura TL and they were great in the snow for an all season tire. Though you can't beat snow tires for the snow.

I have had Conti DWS on all of my cars since I moved to Colorado. I have found the Conti's to be a great all around tire, especially in the snow. Not as good as the Nokian Hakka's as a dedicated snow tire, but good enough. I have not tried them out in the snow on my M35x, but I am looking forward to it.
