i read somewhere that it is best to buy a car at the end of the month, mainly cause those salespersons have quotas to meet and they tend to try and do just about anything to get you to buy the car especially when they've got the pressure of the end of the month is coming up. just a thought anyways . . . . . .

I believe that's true. Not only do the salesmen have quotas, I believe the dealerships also pay a certain amount of $ to keep the cars on the lot each month. I forget the term for that. Another suggestion is buying a new car toward the end of a model year. Dealers will be more motivated to discount a 2003 with a shipment of 2004's coming in.

I would agree with that statement and to narrow it down even more, the last day of the month. It's Close Out. It's sometimes a very busy day, very hectic. The dealerships indeed have a goal to reach and on large dealerships, like ours, we're competing to be number one because of money that Nissan sends out. It's a crazy time and not the best time to kick tires. You could get run over by people ready to buy.

I know this is off topic but I didnt want to start a new thread in here: Jayson, I tried to send you an e-mail but cant...I was wondering if you could find out the price of CA18DE headbolts from your dealership. I'm in the Dallas area so if they are a reasonable price I'll come by and pick them up and say hello! Thanks a lot! you can e-mail me the info at [email protected]

The term for the money dealerships pay to keep cars on there lot is "floor Planning". This term is used between the dealership and their bank since their bank is the one who temporarily fincances the inventory until the car sells.

For some reason many customers believe that paying cash willproduce a different price structure than a finance deal. This bit of folklore probably comes from "car salesmen" ....

Truthfully, it mays no real difference if you pay cash or finance. In fact if anything a dealers stands to make a bit more money if you finance. Cash or finance the price should be the same!

As for the 30% discount...I can understand how customers don't believe invoices when we show them. There are very few products I know of where mark-ups are so thin. In fact on some base model Nissan products, the difference between dealer cost and MSRP is LESS than 10%...

Trust me...there NEVER is anything like 30% to give away.

NissanGuy99,

You have started a lopsided war over here. Never say never. Especially in big capital letters like that. It sounds so permanent. I can show true invoices on at least two of my last car deals where there was 27.3% markup in Maximas. And I'm not talking rebates and holdback. It's NOT COMMON that a car have 30% markup but surely not impossible.

FYI- I sold those cars for a little over invoice. I was coming to the internet...commission was no longer important.

Thanks for your reply....

However, I did say the MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) would never be a 30% mark-up. I know of not one singlenew Nissan that could generate a 30% dealer mark-up with allfactory installed equipment.

On the other hand, I did not point out that a Dealer Addendum (a list of dealer installed equipment which has been added by theDEALER), could have a mark-up of ANY amount.

Yet, it's hard to imagine that the total price (MSRP + Dealer Installed Items) could produce a 30% mark-up to the overall vehicle price, unless those dealer installed items were priced at some pretty fancy numbers.

There be magicians at the dealer...

Probably not the best example but one that comes to mind is the Nissan Entertainment System in the Murano. (or lack there or) We sale a few a month. If that sounds off to you it's because the Nissan Entertainment System as listed in your accessory guide is not yet available. However, each dealer that wants to add a DVD system to the Murano can do so, aftermarket and then list it on the addendum as the NES and charge MSRP + for it.
